Is it against code to use non-treated 8x8 Doug Fir posts for a patio structure cover? I've had contractors telling me different things. The post will sit on a Simpson CBSQ88 column base.

I can't see any reason why that would an an issue, especially with a stand off base like the one you are proposing.

Douglas fir is commonly used on pergolas which are subject to the elements all the time.
