Have any of you ever put a sound blanket on an outside unit? The unit is right outside my sons room and when it comes on it's pretty noisy. Saw this product and was looking to get your thoughts:

I've used one of those & it does help a little bit.

The sound would be cut down more if you just put the weighted blanket around the whole unit

(PS: don't do that)

A lot of times the noise is due to the copper lineset touching the wall especially on wood or hardy walls. You might look where the copper goes in and make sure there's a small gap. If there's not you can gently push the lineset to get the room needed or possibly even shift the entire condenser.

After you get it quiet your kid will then not sleep right because it's too quiet and you'll ponder why you even bothered.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I checked on the above recommendation and there is a gap all the way around.

I'm going to give the sound blanket a try

Haha, coming from a marriage where both of us grew up sleeping next to a window on a street busy with MAC & grocery trucks all night and now near a TAMU train whose 3am engineer loves to blow its warning horns loud. But on one acre, kids grew up quiet-spoiled and it was hell on them in the noisy dorms/apts/etc. later.

4-6" foam is cheaper and may be more effective in his window, although you are correct to attack sound pests at their source. Such foam would give a better STC than even the exterior walls (sound ******ent).

and other options 3-4"tk cut to fit window recesses

A masonry sound wall exterior is moot for lack of funds/practicality. $$$$

Don't kids today sleep with earbuds or TV blasting commericals all night? haha

I grew up with the AC unit below my bedroom window. I couldn't go to sleep until the AC came on.

You're either going to want a white noise machine with a fan sound or a big ol mirror
