I have Makita air compressor and the regulator started leaking so I replaced it. The new one is also leaking. Before I do anything else is there something I am missing. I thought it was just a matter of disconnecting a couple of lines and fittings and putting them back on the new regulator but I am still getting the same leak. Any ideas?

Did you put tape or dope on the fittings?

Is leaking at the threads? Did you add Teflon tape to the threads when you screwed the new one in?

I don't know, but...

1.) Do you havethe old one and want to sell it? I'm cool with a leaker because....

2.) Every air compressor I have ever owned in 35 years has never held it's pressure past a day. Ever.

Its leaking around the control knob. Tape is around the fittings but they are behind the front panel. I can feel it leaking. Maybe the new regulator is also bad?

Leak is bad enough to where it wont stop running.

Sounds like the diaphragm is torn in the regulator if you can't build pressure. Any chance the adjustment knob needs to be tightened?

I have used "water well" style regulators for my older leakers. They have a lever to turn on and off and usually shut off at 120psi. You can swap them out with just about anything that will fit on there.

Ended up being operator idiocy. The knob needed to be tightened down much more than the original.
