In College Station. When should winter fertilizer go down, and what do y'all use? Same as your spring fertilizer?

IF we plan to get rain in Oct. I plan to hit mine now with quick release fertilizer and then the Fall Treatment in late November. I need it to grow and fill in while temps are still high and we are getting rain. Try and recover some of the summer drought damage. Nov will still be warm.

Oh lord, here we go again. That's what people use who want to take advice from a journalism major whose entire business is built around using a radio show and easy schedules to sell a ton of product.

Fertilizing isn't a one-size-fits-all, even if you're in the same area with similar soil temps as someone else. Randy's schedule is built for Houston, in what I assume are average conditions, and weather has been anything but average lately.

Get your soil tested (http://soiltesting.tamu.edu/ ) to determine what it actually needs, and base your schedule on the average frost dates for your area.

If you want some one-stop schedule, take a look at your alma mater! There are much better references here than you'd ever find from Randy - they have separate calendars for Bermuda and St. Augustine: https://aggieturf.tamu.edu/publications/

Pretty solid schedule your average homeowner can follow if in Houston area.

Defending Randy a bit, rest in peace sir, his original degree was in journalism. His Master's was in Agriculture though, and he had decades of experience in this space helping a lot of people take care of their yards.

Ask the Agronomist(TM) says……

This is one time I really like the organics. You're looking at 5 months of essentially little real base grass growth. You're just giving it what it needs for strong root growth in the winter and enough nutrients to get started next spring. The organics (Medina makes a good pelleted one) are a good slow release option with micro nutrients as a bonus.
Being in TexAgs jail changes a man……..no, not really
