Kind of a dumb thread but curious what you guys have.

I live on a 1/4 acre lot and have been toying with the idea of a small shed. Wife confirmed we are allowed to have one in our neighborhood.

We just moved into a new house and I love a nice organized and clean garage. If I had a shed I could get my push mower, wheelbarrow, and all my rakes/shovels/etc. out of the garage and reduce the clutter.

Have any of you put in a small shed and been really happy you did? Or would you rather keep the stuff in the garage and not sacrifice the yard space?

Also would like to hear any of your garage organizing ideas that have been good for you guys.

I have a three car garage with not a single car in it. Full of crap. However, I have two storage sheds on the side of the house.

Shed one is strictly pool supplies. Shed two is lawn and garden storage. Bags of topsoil, fertilizer, and tools used seasonally. ie tiller, power washer.

Someday I hope to be able to park wife's car and my Olds 442 convertible in the garage. Although it seems like a pipe dream at this time.
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.

I had one at the last house. Was nice to keep the flammables and funes away from the house.

This will contradict that, but If I had the space and budget for a shed I'd probably spend a touch more on an office unit like this with an inclosed lean to on the back side to store lawn equipment.

Trying to envision what you said. So it would be the office unit which is the bottom picture with at lean too which is the top picture on the back of it?

Where do you live? A friend of mine builds these for folks on the weekend, he is a teacher/coach at the local high school.

He is in Katy/Richmond/Sugar Land.

I'm totally happy to get all that crap out of the garage.

I have a similar lot size and ended up putting one on the side of the house in our fenced in dog run. I couldn't find one to fit that space, so I built my own 5'x15' lean-to out of metal. I got exactly what I wanted, and was able to customize it for the stuff I was storing there. If you can swing it on the side of the house, there are a lot of advantages and it doesn't affect the yard space.

As far as garage organization, I really enjoy doing it and having a nice, organized, functional garage, but it really depends on what you are storing & using it for.

Correct. Or just extend the roof back and add the storage on the back side.

I put in an 8 x 12 a few years ago and I am really happy to have it. It's great to be able to store lawn equipment, and other items that are used less frequently. It allowed me to turn the garage into a home gym. I do still have a workbench and most of my tools in the garage, though. I built mine from a kit I picked up from Home Depot.

I have a 0.25 acre lot, and added a 16x10 "shed" that I work in.

The main house was built in 1957 so there is no HOA, but I built my "office" on an existing slab.

It's nice to be able to work away from the house

Wait, what was the question?

I've now built two that I have in my current backyard. I studied the versions you can buy at Home depot, did some research online and then I designed my own. I built mine in such a way that it is as tall as the fence, so the HOA can't see it in my backyard. I built them big enough to store lawn equipment, pool stuff, smoker, etc. I poured my own concrete foundation for 1 of them, the other I repurposed old fencing equipment from the HOA re-fencing project that was done in our community. That one isn't as nice, but it does the job

Indeed, over 20 years now and NO maintenace other than sweeping the roof every 5 years if the mood hits me.

All metal, small window rear for light/ventilation, wide door front.
Only upgrade was treated plywood floor WHEW all those times the kids left it open to rain.
Morgan moved it free from an old Bryan HWY 6 location onto conc. blocks, leveled it so it never flooded and still pretty darn level.

This was going to be a summer project that teaches 2 sons how to build things BUT the materials alone cost more than all I got, ready to go AND came in less than 10 days vs. family taking weeks.

From house 120v/30a outlet, ran a 100ft 15a 12/3 and all's been good with simple loads like 4ft flu-strips, mechanics trouble lights, maybe a circ.saw, batt.chargers.

BTW there are setbacks for sheds - however small - be they City or ACC Deed Restrictions. You DON'T want to move it twice.
Ten words or less ... a goal unattainable

I'm on just under a half acre. Moved in about a year ago and it does have a shed... Essentially brand new, was put in right before we moved in. It's a gamechanger but then, I'm OCD about my garage... I have a 3 car garage and put two cars in, and could put a 3rd if needed and you gave me about 20 minutes notice.

Keep the yard stuff out there and some pool supplies. Garage has cars, my tools and other equipment but I have two sets of 8 foot shelves and workbenches to keep everything organized. 2 cars would be tough to get in there without the shed and 3 would be impossible.

Recommend the shed.

god yes a shed is a must it seems. We have a three car garage, wife and I both park in the double, so the single is left for storage. I have my tool bench, an upright freezer, and currently there is a treadmill, a little basketball game for the kids, 4 bikes, and my air compressor.

No way I'd have room for lawnmower, snow blower, fertilizer broadcaster, bags of mulch and whatever else, power washer, etc. etc..

Mine is only 8x7, I wish I could have gone bigger, but I have a retaining wall that kind of boxed it in.

I built it from scratch back in 2015.

Those lilacs in front of A/C are now about 10' tall, and the two little thorny bushes right by the shed are about 4' tall, so they all hide it pretty well. I also put up an L shaped fence just on the grass side of the shed to enclose a pea gravel area that the dogs use.

I also ditched the flagstone and put concrete from house to fence.
