Trying to help out a family member, fix their Whirlpool range.

The gas cook top burners work.
Her gas oven won't light, but the igniter is glowing.

So my thoughts are just a bad igniter, because since the cook top burners light, I'm thinking the gas safety valve is working.

I didn't pull the back cover off of to confirm, but I'm thinking (guessing?) there is only one safety valve that controls both the gas feed to both the oven and cooktop burners.

Make sense, or am I on the wrong track?

There should be a sensor in the oven that allows gas to go. Heat sensor. Might be covered in soot or it's bad. That sensor controls one of the valve for gas.

If you can get to it, it should be easy fix. Look online for parts list searching model number.

Pretty sure it is the gas valve. Simple fix. Here is a link to a similar item, you will have to look up the specific part for your unit. Very easy pull and replace and this is one of the parts that has to be replaced after a given time.

All burners work, it's a dual oven and the top oven stopped lighting a couple weeks ago. Haven't had a chance to mess with it, have just been using the bottom oven. I figured it was just the igniter

Bad igniter is a strong candidate. Should be a quick, easy, and inexpensive DIY repair.
