We just got new home office built and the counter is butcherblock. Can anyone with experience with this type of counter suggest a proper sealant/coating?

We were advised to use mineral oil every couple of weeks on ours. We do it randomly, but not that frequently.

I always used mineral oil, but recently discovered hemp oil and have really been impressed.

Mineral oil from the drug dept (the constipation medicine) works perfectly and is dirt cheap. Dont buy any mineral oil directly labeled for butcher blocks, its a mark up rip off. Food grade mineral oil is food grade mineral oil.

Unless you are trying to keep your home office surface "food safe" there is no point in going with natural oils. This is a piece of furniture that is going to get a lot of use and needs to be protected as such. Seal it with Rubio and then top it with a ceramic coating.

I use a 50/50 mix of citrus solvent and tung oil.
