The batteries seem outrageously expensive, but claim to last 10 years.
The EGO batteries (like most Lithium ion batteries) are very expensive and I have no idea whether they'll last for 10 years.
But, I do know this -- The batteries have a 3 year warranty. After about 2-1/2 years of using my EGO 2.5 ah battery it, just last week, failed to accept a charge and gave me the dreaded flashing orange light when I pressed the charge indicator.
It will do that when the battery is overheated, but not normally. It wouldn't run the tool and it wouldn't accept a charge on the charger.
So, I called the warranty service phone number, as they don't have a method to handle that online. Although I was on hold for over 20 minutes and finally accepted the option to have them call me back, they did.
After some brief troubleshooting, and confirmation that I had in fact registered my tool on their website with a copy of a dated receipt from an authorized EGO reseller (Amazon in my case), the gentleman said they would send me a new battery, and that I was just to dispose of the failed battery 'properly'.
Other than the inconvenience, I was very pleased they actually honored their warranty and didn't try to weasel out, ala most new car dealers. ;-)
So, I'll say I'm very pleased with my EGO tools -- a string trimmer and hedge trimmer.
But, be certain you register your tool on their website and upload a copy of your receipt if you want your warranty to be in effect. One more thing -- I've got a couple of EGO batteries, both 2.5 ah. In the string trimmer, I only get about 20 minutes of hard use out of them. In the hedge trimmer, however, they last much, much longer. I don't know how long they'll last in a blower.
