Anyone on here done a prefab home/cabin for Ranch or getaway? My wife and I are about to start looking into it for Colorado, ID, Maine, VT.

Curious to know how easy these pre-fab homes are. From the surface, seems like a no brainer.

Experience: never built a home. Assuming find a plot of land that has electric and plumbing already?

Sorry this isn't much help but you could use a bump anyway…. my old boss had two put on his place down around Alice. This was 10 years ago. He was really happy with them. I only saw pics but they looked great!

If you're looking at something rural, you can usually get electrical without too much hassle, but you will most likely need a well for water and a septic for sewer, so you're looking at some upfront costs there. It's been a while since I've looked at those and also not familiar with those remote locations, but I'm guessing about $15k for each of those.

I've been looking into this for a place in southwestern Colorado. I've been in contact with these 2 companies...that are different degrees of "modular." Both have done lots of projects in our projected area.

Lindal isn't really modular, but pre-engineered and designed (subject to customization) with materials included.

Both of these are definitely higher end for modular...but are on the lower end of what it would cost to build something similar custom from scratch.

I'm leaning hard towards Lindal because there is an authorized dealer/builder closeby.

Here's another that I reached out to previously and they just called me back.

https://www.trinitybuildingsystems.com/

After talking to them, I think the problem is going to be finding someone to build with their materials. I asked a lot of questions about that and their answers didn't make me feel very confident. This would be a great product for someone who could GC it on their own.

EDIT...after talking to them further, they CAN do the actual build in certain areas, but prefer not to. They also don't do the pre build site work typically.
