I am building a new house in the hill country and will be going with an electric heat pump. We do not have natural gas service and propane is available but not reasonably priced due to prior neighborhood buildout and propane service agreements

I am trying to decide between a trane xv18 and a Carrier 25VNA8.

Both are variable speed units with good efficiency and seer ratings. Overall similar units in my opinion

There are several HVAC experts on the board here and I am looking for anyone's experience or guidance between the 2 new systems.

Was recently told by multiple people that the Carrier parts are much easier to get if there is a problem if that influences your decision.

Carrier. And that comes from someone who has a Trane.

Our 1999 Carrier HP 1-stage was beginning to have a very difficult time finding parts in 2021.
We spent 71% of first-costs on repairs 1999-2021 and it leaked.
Service & installation was A+

Our Trane HP variable-stage is only 2yrs old, so can only report no problems and it IS impressively pampering us in this 80's house like never prior.
Service & installation was A+

My buddy built a house 3 or 4 years ago and has Trane units. Had to wait over two weeks to get parts for them when it went out. Didn't have A/C for 2 weeks in the hottest part of the summer this year. Had window units in the bedrooms for at night and ran all the fans for 24/7.

I've been having issues with a Carrier AC at my ranch house. It's out of warranty, but it's had issues since new we've been working with multiple vendors to fix. I reached out to Carrier as a last hail Mary at getting something done - and carrier is replacing it at their cost even though it's out of warranty. I'm waiting on the parts to come in now so we can schedule the replacement, but thus far has been smooth. If it continues to go like it is - and Carrier stands behind their product like it seems like so far in the process - I'll be a Carrier customer for life

True reality they are both about the same. If you are debating on 2 stage between the two I would go carrier. The Trane units are very finicky on their power requirements.

We have a few Trane units that the parts keep getting burned up because of "hot" power, meaning the 230v is really coming in at 245v+. So if you can guarantee clean power then Trane is a very good unit.

We are having really good luck with the rheem units we installed in the customers houses we've put them in. If I was going to be putting a new unit in my house I'd get a Rheem right now.

I do have a little bit of an advantage over most people because of my access to parts.
