Best place to buy a Jandy pool pump?

Building a pool and currently have 1 pump planned for. A neighbor recommended I add a second (even single speed) pump for the features so I could easily operate the spa and the features simultaneously. He said it's much cheaper to add it now than to go back and add it and plumb it later. I agree, and want to spend my money ensuring I have quality equipment.

The primary pump is Jandy EPUMP 2HP and I'm looking at buying this one so the brands match (would bother me otherwise) but before I buy from Amazon, I want to know if there's a better place to go.

Any/all advice regarding equipment is welcomed, with the exception of "pffff Jandy sucks and you've made a terrible mistake already"

TIA

Pinch a Penny McKinney says $939
Amazon says $945

FYI Jandy does not warranty anything sold on the internet.

If pinch a penny is an authorized dealer I'd get it there. At least you'd get a year warranty.

Also, if your builder is a Jandy dealer, he should be offering you 3 years parts & labor on your pump and heater. I'd buy the additional pump through him since that'd give you 3 years of warranty.

If you are in Houston, I can get that pump for you much cheaper than the Amazon price. Send me a PM if interested.

Fire09, what's your story? Are you a distributor or work at a wholesaler or something?

I need to know whether to update my pool spreadsheet or not.

Thanks

Ha, nice. I own a cleaning and maintenance company. Happy to help fellow ags out from time to time with equipment as a reseller.

Alright! Now that I have this extra pump, I want to understand how it should used. Here is the list of equipment I'll have. Are we saying my extra pump will be dedicated to the spa and would serve a purpose aside from the included blower? Or did I waste money on a spare pump? Lol shout out Fire09 for the hookup btw! I owe you.

I think I figured it out. My extra 1HP pump will run the features on its own and will take the stress off the main pump. My neighbor has this set up. Says he runs the features pump 15 hours a day.

No problem man. You need to tell your pool builder that you bought a dedicated feature pump before he puts down any piping, or it will likely need to be redone.

Edit: yep just like your neighbors setup. Enjoy!

Do I need a chiller? I've heard from multiple ppl they're useless and won't provide much relief. Thoughts?

An evaporative cooler will only cool the pool to the ambient air temperature at which you run it. Low electricity consumption.

A heat pump chiller will cool the pool to whatever temperature you tell it to. Lots of electricity consumption though.

I would encourage you to program your water feature to run overnight on a regular basis (don't run them during the day) to push water through the cool night air before spending any money on a chiller.

Fire09,

I don't want to hijack, but I have a question about a pool at a house we are buying and I would like your input on converting it to Salt and the equipment needed. Mind if I PM you?

Great advice.

I'm having them plumb in a way that allows me to add a heater chiller later if I need it. The equipment pad will be big enough to add one.

We are west facing and the backyard gets shade around 5:30pm so evening swims should be comfortable. But just in case, I want to be prepared. Thanks again

Be sure to confirm that with your builder. Someone else on here did that and the installers spread everything out on the big pad and didn't leave room for the extra equipment.

Is there a place to recycle an old salt cell? I changed out my Jandy cell a couple of months ago and didn't just want to toss the old one in the trash if possible. We have curbside recycling for the typical recycled materials.

I've never heard of anyone doing anything other than trashing the old ones. Maybe try a metal scrapper and see if they are interested but I doubt it would be enough yield to be worth your or their time. Sometimes they can be rebuilt but generally it's not economical commercially. More of a DIY project for a homeowner.

Thanks for the reply. Think I'll toss it in the recycling. At least give it a chance.
