Which testing kit are you using ? I'm looking for something a little more robust than what our PB gave us.

One of my valves is shot and I backwashed my filter right in to my pool. This is why I cant have nice things.

So much sediment. Idk if I should drain it or just pump it for a year straight.

DE filter?

Turn off pump. Fix valve.
DE should settle quickly.
Turn on pump, vacuum into empty filter.
Backwash to waste.
Recharge filter.

Sand filter. I'm not going ti mess with valve right now because that is a bigger job than I want to deal with right now. If I am going ti back flush again I'll just put a hose from the jet out of the pool. I just got the thing looking good and then I dumped a ton of crap in it I am so frustrated with it.

I bet they gave you the cheap Pentair test kit? You need to get yourself a Taylor K-2006 that does CYA, alkalinity, and calcium.

Multi port.

I'm just not sure how long the filter will take to get all this funk that just got dumped in my pool out or if I'm better just emptying and refilling.

The valve works fine on use with the filter but when I put it on back wash it definitely leaked by back in to the pool. I dont want to replace it right now so if I need to back wash again ill just put a hose in the jet port and pump it outside.

Pool is funky right now though which is my only pressing concern.

If it's all settled to the bottom can you vacuum it back into the filter with a vac head and hose through a skimmer?

Let it settle, vacuum to waste, good to go.

It seems too fine to vacuum up but I have a polaris 360 anyways which wouldn't really be good in this situation I dont think. I'll see what it looks like in the morning.

Your Polaris will just push that stuff around and stir it up. Get a hose and an aluminium pole. Pump off. Connect hose to vac head and drop in pool, get hose full of water to help prime. Connect to skimmer suction, closest to pump. Close other skimmer suction flap in case you drop too low and start sucking air. Multiport to waste, turn on pump, don't lift head out of water or it will lose prime. Refill and you'll have dropped your CYA in the process.

And the multi-port valves don't usually go bad, it's either the spider gasket inside or the outer o-ring can fail causing it to leak. Sometimes the handle can bind up, but keep some silicone lube on the outer spring assembly. Mine is 23 years old and is showing some stress cracks, but is still holding up.

I had it set to filter and there was still water going through to waste so I had to close my secondary valve. When I had it set to waste there was still water going in to my pool which is where this all started. That is why I mentioned running a hose from my jet out of the pool when I back wash next.

Yeah your multiport cap comes off, it should be about 8-10 SS screws or small bolts. Take a picture to ensure correct orientation. It may take some effort to get it off, depending on if whoever installed it used a bead of rtv. If it's stuck, try one of those automotive trim tools to try and loosen it up. You'll probably see your spider gasket either torn or up out of the grooves. Make sure to clean the grooves really well, and use some waterproof rtv to get it re-set and wait awhile. Lube the top of the gasket with the o-ring lube and check the outer o-ring as well. I'd go ahead and replace it too if you get in there. If you know the OEM / model number, there should be rebuild kits out there with everything you need.

Pool is still insanely cloudy after sitting all night so I think I may have to drain.

Shock it, then let it sit with the pumps off for a few days, it will settle out eventually. If it still starts to go green, get some of the 10% bleach at Wal Mart, they call it "Pool Chlorinating Liquid". Most OTC bleach is about 6%. But yes, draining 1/2 the water will help to reset everything. Look into a salt conversion if you want a relatively maintenance-free pool, and crunch the numbers for 5 years with the SWG kit / salt vs the cost of chlorine, it's about a wash.

I'm more worried about the particulate though. No way I can keep my kids out of the pool for several days to let it settle out

Pool issues never end once they begin it seems.

Waterfall pump decided not to work anymore, so I gotta figure that out now that I got the cleaner running again. Anyone have any experience on common issues there to start with? Doing a little research on forums. 1.5hp motor.

If it just hums and wont turn, probably the motor starter. Easy to replace.

Before buying a new pump motor, if it is otherwise in good shape, take it to a electric motor shop for repair.
Might save some money.
I use Frank's in B/CS

Remove the start capacitor, just like on AC units, they fail and the motor won't start. Cheap, just match the uf number and get one with the same number of terminals. While it's humming, you can also stick a screw driver in the rear of it and give it a turn (forgot which direction) and it will probably start. Look back there and you'll see a bolt with a slot. Google it, there's alot of info out there. www.troublefreepool.com is the best online resource.

Waterco doesn't make my MPV anymore and the lady doesn't even think they will have parts to rebuild it.

Try plastic welding it.

One thing to consider is maybe switch to a cartridge filtration system if you are going to be cutting pipe. Way less maintenance hassle.
