Have some annoying things growing in clusters of oaks in the yard. I'm no expert but some google searches leads me to believe I have some similax bona-nox or some greenbrier that keeps popping up everywhere. I also have what seems to be tiny oaks sprouting up from the clusters of trees. Google leads me to believe they might be "suckers" from the roots…..not sure

Nonetheless, various types of weed and grass killers I've tried don't phase either one. Is there anything I can spray this with under the trees that will kill this stuff but not the big trees? Regarding what seems like a lot of tiny oaks popping up, If I really am dealing with suckers, seems like I'd be stressing the tree out if I get some harsh stuff.

How do you get rid of the suckers from the roots? Weed Eat?

that or mow over them. they will always come back though. been told its a genetic trait of the individual tree. too much soil or mulch around the root flare might encourage them.

Vinegar and orange oil will toast everything green it touches, and doesn't translocate.

Is it a bunch? I've gotten rid of some pesky things like this by putting a couple of paper towels into a ziplock type of bag and soaking the paper towel with roundup. Then I feed some of the plant into the bag and seal it off. Let it soak that round up up for a week or two. Tell it to eat **** and die!

Will it keep new grass seed from growing? I'd be fine nuking what I have and reseeding.

What % vinegar?

So, does that mean that vinegar/orange oil would be safe to spray on my hundreds of oak volunteer sprouts in my yard near/around my oak trees?

If so, do you have any details on recommended vinegar acidity or orange oil details (I've never used/bought orange oil before)?

They make horticultural vinegar which is 30%. I have mixed a gallon of that with a cup of salt and a TBSP of dish soap. Looks like there's horticultural orange oil as well. Medina makes some. I just don't know the proportions to use with vinegar.

There is a pre-mix you can buy at any good garden store. It is strictly a contact "herbicide" and leaves no residual.
