Was doing an inside remodel to our Steamboat Springs home and the contractor get the demo part mostly done and then he decides to shoot and kill himself. That was a lot of fun to get that mess rectified.

In your home? That's awful!

Thankfully it was not in our home. He actually shot himself in the chest at a fire station in Denver.

How's everyone doing? We signed our custom build contract on 3/3/22. Do not have flooring. Been at nearly a standstill for a month because of a mantle.

Yikes. Nothing like our experience.

What could possibly take a month for a mantle?

They lost the slabs we picked out were released. The builder never set the maker up as a vendor in its system. The stone on the fireplace couldn't continue without it. And they can't lay the LVP until the mound of stone in our living room is cleared out. I paid the vendor directly. Our PM has been driving around with the mantle in his truck for a week. Waiting on labor to come back.

"GC" thinks we're done, walkthru has A LOT of stuff to fix. Mainly repaint the entire interior, all trim, all doors, and ceiling.

There are no knobs/pulls on cabinets, cabinet maker needs to finish touch ups, several doors don't latch properly.

GC expected to come out and knock out our punchlist in an hour or two on Saturday. I laughed and laughed. He never showed up. Maybe tomorrow?

Sorry you're dealing with that. It's not always been smooth for sure on our build, but that sucks.

My house that I live in now the contractor put in the insulation and sheet rock before the house was dried in. Only had felt paper on the roof. And of course it rained.

My house in Colorado we are doing a total remodel and the contractor gets everything torn out and then proceeds to shoot himself!

Some of these stories are legitimately disturbing. But not all surprising. Hopefully, in most cases, this thread should be "horror stories of the lowest bidding contractor" … you can do it cheap, or do it right the first time. Rarely can you get both.

You can get pretty much anything with 2 of the following, but will sacrifice the third:

Cheap
Quick
Well done
