Cross posted from Aggieland but curious if anyone here has feedback (good/bad) on their homes? Specifically looking at homes in College Station.

I can't speak for the rest of the build or current ones but many were built without drip edge. Look for rot on fascia and trim. Lots were missing kick out flashing on walls. Also, many of them that are two story with a porch had two valleys that drop onto a low sloped porch roof below. Every one I have ever roofed has required decking non that porch roof due to rot since they didn't put the proper underlayment a beneath them. This is actually try for a lot of homes. It's really hit or miss on a lot. It seems like they just do whatever with whatever materials they have. So you might have no issue or you might.

You get what you pay for. If you get a good superintendent then the home will end up better than most of them.

I don't get hired by such as these, ergo to inspect the process might be trespassing.
BUT
Plenty of local subs might fill your ear with what they are asked to do/not-do that can give you food for thought.

If the city/BTU would allow you to visit energy consumption of addresses known to be Builder A or B, then that perspective could be weighed against first-costs.

The #1 cause of lawsuits are foundation failures in this volatile clay supporting soils so maybe some local foundation repair companies might share some opinions, even if contrary to self interest.

I can't print all that I know but they make stock holders very happy ...

I bought one in southern pointe in October and will never buy another DR Horton house again! The finish quality is horrendous and amount of things wrong or just not done that I keep finding is very very long!

A little update to this. With the recent hail in Fredericksburg and New Braunfels, I have a lot of previous customers. As I mentioned back in February, one neighborhood in particular is all DR Horton. I did 20+ roofs there. I can now almost predict what is leaking and where by looking at the front of the house. It's almost 100%. On one particular instance, the customer said "this spot leaked when we bought the house"..."it leaked when I had a roof put on it"...and "it still has a small leak after you put a roof on it, what gives?"

After beating my head against the wall and tearing off my work twice on my dime, it turned out there was no weather barrier under his siding. Rain was leaking into the fine cracks, or missing nail holes in his siding, getting behind the flashing, and then ending up in the master bedroom. I have not had that issue on others, but it truly seems, as TGIVAUGHN alluded to, they just kind of do whatever with whatever and with whomever can knock it out and call it 'finished'.
