Gutter quote sanity check

I've recently determined that I probably need to replace the gutters (of uncertain age) in the house I bought in Charlotte earlier this year. First clue was the tree growing out of the gutter on the back side of my house. Second clue was the inch and a half of silt and roof granules in the gutter. Third clue was, after cleaning out said silt and muck and such, seeing water pool back towards the middle of the gutter rather than to the downspouts on either end.

The house is single story on a crawlspace; one roofline in the back and two in the front. All three are basically straight lines (with some wraparound at the corners). Total length of all guttering is no more than 120 linear feet, and probably closer to 100.

First quote back for six inch seamless gutters with gutter covers comes in at a cool $4,500, or a minimum of $37.50 per linear foot (assuming 120 lf, which again is probably high, since my house isn't but about 50' wide). That includes demo and haulaway of the existing gutters.

Definitely getting a couple more quotes, but want to get a sanity check as to whether I should expect this ballpark or not.

Let us know what this calculator tells you .... it's not spot-on but serves its purpose.

Based on that calculator, gutters themselves come out to about $1,600, and then the gutter cover calculator claims about $800. Total, that's a little closer to what I was expecting.

I did about 200 LF of 6" with leaf guards a year ago and it cost me $3500. The number you got definitely seems high.

Are they willing to remove and replace on different days? You may want to consider painting your facia and soffits while you don't have gutters.

If it were summertime, might be tempted to simply DIY

If there were no crawl space in peril of weather flooding, some clients w/slab-on-grade are NOT doing gutters & using that vast amount of cash for landscaping that invites weather runoff well away from the foundation.

6" regular style gutters can be $12-18/LF.

EZ Lock leaf guards $7-10/LF.

Micro mesh leaf guards are usually twice EZ Lock.

Also, don't forget your downspouts in your footage calculation.

If the gutters are clean and not rusted out, why not level them, or re-hang them instead of replacing them?

Any particular gutter setups you recommend or like?

It kind of depends on your specific roofline and location but generally for a standard style gutter, I like a 6" gutter. I really like the leaf guard micro mesh style guards but they are very expensive, so, if you have oaks, pines, ash juniper, elm….trees that are dirty, they work pretty well. The EZ Lock are good for bigger debris, maple leaves, things that aren't going to get stuck in it. Pine needles will not work with them. My gutter guy generally suggests leaf guards where needed rather than everywhere due to cost. He's happy to put them up but I like them to custom install based on customer needs.
