I just won a commercial freezer in an auction and didn't look at the damn plug...wtf is this? Can I get an adapter to take it from 4 to 3 prong or do I have to get an electrician to install a new plug in wall? I had electrician install a plug for beer fridge and a deep freeze on their own breaker. Hoping I can just get an adapter to put into that plug, but I don't know much about this stuff. Thanks.

Looks like NEMA 14. You'd have to look at the freezer nameplate to see what voltage and current it's rated for. Replacing a normal 15A receptacle is probably not sufficient.

Thank you. It says it's a NEMA - L14-20P online and, of course, the picture from the website is blurry so I'll have to wait until it arrives and get a better look. Hope the damn thing works!

I'm pretty sure that says voltage is 208 - 230. So you can't use a normal wall outlet which is only 120V. You'd have to run a new circuit or repurpose one that's already 240V like a dryer or water heater.

Correct... that plug provides 120/240 to the appliance. Two hots, neutral, and ground.

Actually, under voltage I think it says "115/208-230". So there may be an option to wire it to a 120V circuit.

nm...the 115V must be for controls and the 230V for the compressor. So yes, you'll need a new circuit or repurposed one from an electric dryer.

Thank you. Never would have bid on this thing if I had known all of this.

All I have in the vein of hope:
Electrician wired our house in 1980 for an outside plug
that from the Main Panel could be switched from 120v to 220v just by moving a wire.
So it was good for 120v non-GFIC heavy duty yard equipment
and with a "PigTail" could power an RV/motorhome 220v needs.

Get a real electrician, why risk a fire in the middle of the night in bad weather?

KUDOS on your bargain.

Lol...I'm either going to be a hero or a zero. $10,000 freezer that works for $600 then I'm a hero. $10,000 paper weight for $600 and I'm a dumbass. Will let you know the results. Freezer being delivered tomorrow but have to get electrician to install the plug before I know if it works.

If you have a generator, you can test the unit against it. If not, your electrician can pull a temp plug off the box to see if the compressor kicks. Once you know the compressor works, you can run the line.

I think that unit is worth fixing if it doesn't work.

What is a decent price (these days) to get this 20 amp dedicated plug installed? Have guy that was recommended that said he could do it for $350. Seems little high but it's a crazy new world.

It all depends on how much of a PITA those 6' would be to run.

If it's that close wouldn't be too bad to do yourself.

Yeah, that ain't happening. I posted on a thread to ask what kind of plug it was. I'll trade bbq, venison and beer but me doing the job would only result in me screwing something up, killing myself or both.

Call this number 817-291-6873. Guy's name is Brett

He teaches classes at TCC to future electricians. He did some work around my house in the mid-cites area. He might give a better rate but no promises.

I'd probably go with $350 and call it a day. I doubt you'll find much cheaper unless you get someone that you pay cash under the table or call in a favor.

We had an additional 240v circuit installed in our garage a year ago and it was $300.

$350 sounds like a solid price for that.

Just arrived. My wife is going to be so pissed...it's huge. Lol. Here's the tag where you can read it. Looks to be in good condition. Electrician coming Friday morning. Fingers crossed.

If your wife vetos it, I can probably haul it off for you for less than the electrician cost.

You have any motorcycles or muscle cars your wife will try to unload just to spite you after kicking you out of the house and filing for divorce?

So, I think that will run on 115 volt but you'll need a dedicated circuit b/c it will pull quite a few amps.

I'd be surprised if it was rated for conversion. Typically, dual rated appliance nameplates are listed with both Full Load Amp ratings as well. The 115V is for the control power of the accessories, probably not the compressor. Here is another manual, more specific to the TG series with no information regarding plug swap-out.

So even if this thing works I'm still a dumbass. I didn't realize it was a "roll-in" freezer that has no shelves. Really need to pay more attention if I ever do an auction again.

Great idea. I was thinking of doing something like this on one side and then maybe getting a buddy (who is very good at building stuff) to look at building some shelves on the other side...all of this AFTER tomorrow morning when I find out if it works. If it works, then I still think I made a great purchase. If not, then you all can laugh at me for being an idiot.

Those racks will be easiest and cheapest - no need to build anything. That's all most restaurants do. Make sure the ones you get are Rae's for enough weight - frozen **** is all pretty dense and heavy.
