Three car garage. The third car area I'm setting up for processing deer/hogs so I don't have to pay processors anymore. Also sell a lot of vacuum packed bbq. Got tired of people asking me to smoke them stuff so I just fill up my pit anytime I cook and then vacuum seal the rest and then people can heat it up sous vide or simply in hot water. Works pretty well.

Looking forward to the update when you realize it's actually a safe or a Scion xB.

Pat yourself on the back and thank the lord it didn't end up needing and being a three phase freezer and needing a three phase circuit!

Not sure what the second part is but I'll definitely update tomorrow. Electrician coming at 10 AM.

C'mon man, he saved thousands of dollars on that boat anch... uh, freezer. He can afford a service upgrade and a phase converter and still come out ahead!

Take that freezer. Tip it on its side. Glue on 12" paper plates at each corner and whammo, you have the god awful box o' crap baby SUV known as the Scion xB

Well, first obstacle down. I have a plug and it turned on!! Compressor immediately came on. Little loud but this is a huge freezer so maybe that's normal. Hopefully in a couple hours it will be much colder. Think I should find an appliance guy to come and look at it and make sure it's in good shape, even if it cools down?

EDIT: I do want to get an appliance guy out to check it out and make sure we're good to go. Any recommendations? I'd imagine restaurants have folks that come in all the time to do this. I'm in DFW area. Thanks.

I like how it seems to supports 3 digits and a minus (-) symbol. Maybe you can start a cryopreservation business now in addition to the bbq.

Unfortunately not cooling yet. Compressor firing up which is good so hopefully I can get someone out to look at it and get it back to prime condition. I just messed with the thermostat and turned the energy saver off to see if that will do anything.

Not advertised as being functional? Ouch.

Don't know if it will make a difference but that switch is backwards. Normally | means "ON" and O means "OFF".

Thanks. Hopefully it will start cooling then. I'm actually more hopeful now than yesterday since the compressor came on. Was really nervous that thing could be dead.

EDIT: It didn't work. Have appliance guy coming out tomorrow. I think it's cooling down my garage. LOL. Got on ladder and there's cold air blowing out the top. This is a weird one.

Any packing material that's jammed into vents? Maybe to keep things from breaking during shipping?

Appliance repair guy came out. Said it's out of freon from a leak but he thinks he knows where the leak is and can fix it pretty easily. Said he can't confirm until he charges it with freon though and he didn't have the commercial grade freon needed so he's coming back tomorrow at 2PM to charge it. Will report back. Fingers crossed! Said compressor works fine.

Not going to lie...I'm a little anxious about this afternoon! Just hope the leak isn't in the coils. Apparently that can be expensive and also the supply chain is so stupid right now it could take a few months to even get the dang part. He said coils looked pretty good though, but can't confirm they're good until he charges with freon.

SOB! They just called and said their supplier can't get this kind of freon for 1-2 months. This new world we live in sucks!

EDIT: Called another company that has the freon in stock and they are coming out tomorrow afternoon. I'm still sticking with I'm either a hero or a zero...should know by tomorrow! Lol

Do you know specifically what type of freon?

The sticker I posted a pic of says "R404A". No clue what that is but apparently freon is hard to come by these days too, just like everything else in the world. Ridiculous.

If/when you get it running, and you decide not to keep it, it should flip for at least cost I would imagine. Especially if you can verify it works.

I would expect a commercial freezer to be louder than a residential unit. It is probably also a power hog compared to a residential unit. Expect it to dump a lot of hot air into the space.

"Freon" is like Kleenex, a brand name used generically. The "refrigerant" in your home AC is R-12 (really, really old) or R-410a. It's soon to be something else. Appliances and large walk-in coolers and freezers use other refrigerants like R-404a, R-449. Think of it like different weights of oil in engines.

I was told by my refrigeration guy a few months ago that 404 is going the way of 12, 22 and any other thing the environmentalists think will hurt the ozone. Availability evaporates and price goes sky high - then it is "no longer available". Unless you live in a different country. Then you can get as much as you want from a company based in the US.
I’ve seen them play since way back when,
And they’ve always had the grit;
I’ve seen ‘em lose and I’ve seen ‘em win,
But I’ve never seen ‘em quit.

Was R-12 ever used in residential HVAC? I thought it was cars only and 22, which I'm lucky enough to have in one of the two units here at home, was phased out around 2007 and replaced by 410 which is replaced by something else at a date TBD.

It's R-22. 12 is/was in cars. Old man brain fart.

12 was used in some VERY old home units and in window units. It was also used in home refrigerators/freezers. Did its' job well. And yes there is a difference in how freons work. Differences are due to their different chemical compositions.

Side Note: How much was delivery for that bad boy? I'm in the Plano area and was looking at some of the drink coolers for our detached garage. It'd be nice to throw waters, beer, cokes, etc. in and not have to come into the house.

$250, which I thought was a great deal. I had heard it was going to be around $450 or so.

Feel like drinking some bourbon a little early today...

I feel like you all deserve an explanation after our little venture together so here's the latest. Guy came out and agreed with last guy that it was out of freon and also agreed that he thought the leak was right there in front of him in easy spot but needed to charge first. Apparently previous owner had just replaced the evaporator and some other parts and filled with freon by adding some special adaptor that allows you to tap directly into a closed line. They filled it but left that adaptor attached and that adaptor was leaking. He simply cut that off and soldered the line and filled with freon. Dropped from 61 to 20 in about 45 minutes. He had a camo hat on so when he was about to charge me I offered him deer meat and my bill was $185. So, for now, I'm a "hero". Lol.
