I have a T12 ballast that went out. Lowe's has some in stock but none with wiring set up to do a one for one replacement. In searching for a replacement online I found exact replacements in the 75 to 100 dollar range.

I came across a few sites that said you could replace the T12 with aT8 as the T12 ballast are begging phased out. Has anybody done this? This is in the garage and it has one other light fixture on the same switch.

I had considered installing an LED fixture but want sure if I'd like the look of the mixed light until the other fixture fails.

I would just replace both with led fixtures and be done with it for 20 years.

I used the following in different storage areas of my house, and I like them a lot.

Replace both with LED fixtures now...you'll thank me later!

Or - don't replace the fixture, just install LED T12 replacement bulbs. All that is needed is to wire the power directly to the end sockets as a ballast isn't necessary.

This. Home Depot carries the bulb you want. Very easy.

Thanks. Didn't know that was an option.

It's pretty simple to remove the ballast and use T-12 LED bulbs in its place. You can also LED T-8 bulbs as they fit the same tombstones.

I made these changes to my T-12 garage fixtures, it took about 10-15 minutes per fixture to remove the ballast and rewire directly to the tombstones.

Here are the bulbs I bought to replace them, I went with 4000K but there are a few different color temperatures available:

Here's a quick video showing how to do this:

I would convert all my fluorescent bulb to led's then go extra and convert to line voltage led's so you don't have to worry about a ballast again.
