Where did you get the prodamine? If you purchased online and can post a link, I would appreciate it.

I ordered through Amazon because I needed some other things as well. I think they actually just give the order to someone like the poster above referenced to fulfill.

I ordered the other products from Solutions Pest & Lawn. They seem to have great customer service and even give you a persons name and number to call if you need help with application advice etc.

Why is there such a huge time difference between pre-emergent schedules between Neil and Randy's schedule? Neil recommends Sep 1-10th for both pre-emergent and Randy says mid Oct? What gives? I am in Tyler, so I assume I would follow Neil's recommendation since he is around Dallas?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

We will start to have cooler nights a few weeks prior to those down South. Just about everything, fertilizer, planting, pruning, pre-emergent applications, are going to be a few weeks ahead (fall) or behind (spring) of Houston.

Hackberry leafs are starting to fall in our area, East Dallas, as are the acorns. Speaking to some of the old timers, they are expecting long cold we Winter.

What do you guys recommend for a sprayer? I haven't had much luck with a couple of the big box offerings.

That's what I was hearing up in Tennessee too. Winter is coming.

I've applied Scotts Crabgrass Preventer with Halts twice this year (once in Spring and once so far this Fall). This Scotts product label says no more than 2 applications per year. So not sure how you follow Sperry's application regimen which calls for multiple applications, more than 2, per year. I decided to switch to a Gallery product for the last application but can't find it. Would like to find a granular product because it cost so much less and it's all I need for my yard. The regimen looks reasonable but product availability makes it difficult to achieve.

Late October-Early November - Use two (2) different pre-emergent herbicides, to prevent the weeds that we experience in February and March. First is a pre-emergent with Portrait or Gallery for broadleaf weeds like clover. Second, use a pre-emergent with Amaze, Betasan, Balan or Treflan for grassy weeds like poa anna or annual bluegrass. There is also Barricade, Dimension or Pendimethlin as a 2-in-1 control.
Does anyone know if I can find the pre-emergents I need at Ace?

Updating my progress from February post. I started the Bermuda Triangle plan the end of last summer with the Celcius and Certainty. For 2017, here is what I did:

March 15-23 fertilized (29-0-4 generic ace brand) and treated for ants (spectracide)
End of March - applied C&C per label for mid strength (I use the 4 gal backpack sprayer from Harbor Freight $20 on sale)
April 14 Milorgranite
April 24- spot treated with C&C
May 13 - fertilized same as above
May 27 - Applied C&C to small spots using a hand spray bottle being extra careful to make sure I calculated strength correctly
June 4-Milorgranite
July 11 - C&C on trouble spots
July 15 - Over & Out ant treatment
August 5 - Milorgranite
Sept 2 - fert as above and Milorgranite
Sept 3 - Spot treat with C&C
Sept 9 - Proadamine65 per label for medium strength. This was my first application even though I bought last year. I needed some areas to fill in with grass first so decided it needed to wait until this year.

I mowed mostly at 1.25 inches twice a week, and went to 1.5 inches in last month and am mowing about every 6 days.

I am pretty happy considering where I started just late last year.

Some pics of front, back, side and close up.

Those exact ones, I doubt it. Garden center carries barricade (two in one) and at one time had amaze. I have moved toordering online to get the two specified

I have muhly grass in part of my beds and was wondering if the seed of these grasses germinate? If so, what pre-emergent can I use to stop it from doing so. TIA

I'm going to piggyback on this thread. I started following Lemmon's schedule this fall. I'm in College Station and put out the Barricade pre-emergent on 10/29. Broadleafs are going crazy in my yard right now! Did I do something wrong or is it still early in the process? I'm pretty sure I put out the right amount but I could be wrong.

might have been a little late on the herbicide. First year application is spotty , at best, since there are already some active weeds left over . I suggest that you hit the yard with a good cold weather spray on to knock these things down. It can take a few seasons to really achieve that great yard BUT following Randy's schedule WILL absolutely positively work.

It was a very mild fall all the way up to late December. Broadleafs started popping up early to mid October this year so if you didn't already have preemergent down, you were gonna have issues this time.

Barricade sucks on broad leafs. Next year, put out Gallery with it and you'll have better results.

Yeah, Barricade is really more of an annual grass control product, not that good on brosdleaves. Try simazine plus a 3-way to clean up the weeds

Getting to be that time of year.

Also start planning your planting, removal, and trimming.

When is everyone in BCS putting their pre-emergent out? I read that daytime highs need to be in the 60s 4 days in a row. The forecast looks like now is the time but I'm a total novice at this. Also where does everyone get their supplies?

Its time to start the pre-e as soon as you want. You have a 3 or 4 week window.
Producers Co-Op in Bryan has everything you need and even have a few guys that actually know what they are talking about.

VERY SPECIAL E-GARDENS TONIGHT!
For the first time in 16 years I am devoting an entire e-gardens to a single topic. It's our first-ever SPRING LAWN CARE EDITION. It will cover all the questions you'll be asking about...

Choosing the best lawngrass;
Timing pre-emergent weedkiller applications;
When grass won't grow in the shade;
Filling low spots and evening out bumps;
Scalping whether, when and how;
Checklist of weekend tasks.

We'll email it to you at 6 p.m. tonight, but only if you're signed up. Do so right here: http://neilsperry.com/e-gardens/

I second the Co-Op! We started ours this past September and hardly had anything. No real weeds except a couple of small patches of chickweed. I was overrun with it prior. We are about to put out our Spring application. Highly recommend!

Reminder to procure your second installment of pre-emergent if you did not purchase in early spring. Also your second round of spring fertilzer treatments are coming soon.

Quote:

If you applied Dimension, Team, Halts or Balan granules for pre-emergent control of grassburs and crabgrass back in March, you will soon need to make a second application for a full season of prevention. You don't need to apply it now, but many sources close out their supplies after early spring. Start looking now. Buy it when you find it and have it on hand. If you did not treat earlier this spring, there's no point in doing so now.

Quote:

For most warm-season grasses (St. Augustine, bermuda, zoysia, etc.) you could fertilize April 1, June 1, August 1 and October 1 in most of the state. In far North Texas you could probably get by with three feedings April 15, June 15 and September 15.

Those North of Waco, get your fall fertilizer and pre emergent out this week but only after your lawn has dried. Those of you further South are probably next week or late September.

Eh...guess I'll chime in. I'm in McKinney with Bermuda. I just put down dimension and gallery this morning. I use these two:

https://www.fertilome.com/product/turf-ornamental-weed-grass-stopper-35-lbs

I can usually find what I need at Puckett's Nursery in Allen, or as someone already mentioned, Strongs in Carrollton has a large selection of products as well.

Just closed on a house in Victoria, TX and the yard is in decent shape. St Augustine yard with a few brown patches in the backyard and some thinning areas that I would like to fix.

What can be used to remedy these issues? Yard was clean when purchased (no clover, crabgrass, etc)

TTT.

Is it by chance getting close to time to put out a pre-emergent? I think it may be a few weeks early, but I am looking at the 2-week forecast and it seems it's going to be mostly warm in the coming weeks. This weekend, out in Midland, it's looking to hit almost 80. Would this weekend be a good time to put out a pre-emergent, and then follow it up with another round in mid-April?

I've been wondering about this too. Somehow I already have weeds in my yard, even though it's been fairly cold (Dallas).

Go ahead and spray your weeds. As far as pre emergent, I think it's 2 weeks after your last freeze, on average. I'll be checking Sperry's e-newsletter when it comes out today/tomorrow. But yes, you might as well buy now unless you purchased it all last fall.

Here's Neil Sperry's calendar:
https://www.star-telegram.com/living/home-garden/neil-sperry/article69258062.html

He recommends you apply pre-emergent between March 5-15 in DFW.

In other years when it seemed warm enough to apply early he advised people to wait until March 5-15 for the soil to be the right temperature.
