Tileable shower pan?

I am in the process of repairing a bathroom that was damaged by a long unnoticed/neglected leak in the shower. I'm inexperienced at DIY type work but have an interest. I have consulted the best (essentially only) contractor )in my rural area. He is mostly booked for a year out, so I have an agreement with him to repair to the subfloor, which is thankfully not too bad and set the shower pan. After that, he will give me some guidance, but I will be doing most of the work.

He strongly recommended that I get a premade tileable pan to get the project going. None of the local home improvement stores had one in stock, so I started looking online. I see lots of advertisements for Tile Redi shower pans, but found several poor comments about them. I have also seen several comments online about there being lots of these pans made, but have not found the brand names or where to buy them listed.

Can anyone give me some insight here?

Have you looked at this systems? It is a foam pan with a waterproof membrane that you lay over it.

I had heard of that system and mentioned that. He wasn't familiar with it and said he had lots of confidence in Durock for the walls. It might be overkill, but I could use Durock for the walls and then go ahead and use the Kerdi kit over it.

floorlife sells both the Kerdi and Laticrete systems.

USG lists one made by Durock.

The Durock Cement Board has been used for plenty of applications and works fine. Heck, I still have one bathroom to remodel and it has the old-fashioned bed of mortar laid on top of regular sheetrock and I doubt there's any damage.

I had planned on ripping out the tub/shower and replacing it with a shower and I was going to get a Kerdi shower kit. I think now I'm just going to leave the tub and replace the wall tile and go with cement board and redguard.
