We didn't use anything other than regular fertilizer (and not on a good schedule) the first few years (house built in October 2008). We used TruGreen for the last few years but canceled cause they seemed to be doing a poor job after the first year or so.

I am not sure what I sprayed for broadleaf stuff - I'd have to look in my garage (that was years ago).

So basically, there is nothing in particular that I'm used to using.

Are there any good schedules online for this stuff? I'm just NE of Dallas. I've signed up for e-mails from Scott's but that seems to be sales pitches more than anything else. I'm very, very new at actually trying to maintain a good lawn, but if I can find something that tells me what to buy and when to put it down, I think I could manage that.

By the way - thanks for the help TSU. I see you pop up on most of the lawn care threads and appreciate the help you offer.

My problem in the past has been your typical newbie issue of caring when it looks bad, which is typically way too late.

Not to rehash an old thread, but people were applying pre emergent in this thread back in mid to late January in 2014. I've got my stuff ready now, but was under the impression the end of February/beginning of March was when to put it down.

I'm in DFW and I'm determined to finally time this right and annoys having a yard full of weeds!!!

I use generic Barricade. I live south of Houston, have a couple of acres as well. It comes in pellet form, but dissolves easily in water. Mix some surfactant in, liquid fertilizer and then spray with my pull behind sprayer.

Unfortunately with the crappy fall weather, I missed the September/November application and now have weeds, so I'll have to hit the yard with some weed & feed while I spray the pre-emergent for the summer weed crop.

Worked pretty well, isn't terribly expensive.

What sprayer do you use with that product? A lot of options out there for a sprayer.

I have a 30 gallon poly tank I bought from TSC that i rigged up a header system with 3 spray heads on it. Made a little frame for it that fits in my utility cart. All gets hooked to the tractor and run off of a 12V battery.

So what if we're just north of DFW, in Denton?

I was planning on putting it out in the middle part of February.
In today's paper Neil Sperry said you should apply pre-emergent Feb. 25-March 5. This would be in north Texas.

About a month after the last freeze or when you get night time temps above 50 degrees for 4 nights in a row is a good rule of thumb.

January is too early, IMO.
