How simple of a process is this? My wife wants to replace a single can above our kitchen sink with a chandelier of some kind.

I'm no expert, but I have put up a few ceiling fans and done some minor electrical work around the house, so I'm not a complete noob. Biggest concern is getting the new box attached to the ceiling joists because there is no attic space above the kitchen, so all of it will have to be done from below.

Get one of those bars you insert between the joists to hang a ceiling fan. Then mount new light to that.

Also you will have to deal with the hole left by the can light, which is usually 5-6 inches. You may have to patch sheetrock or buy a medallion to cover the hole.

I have been looking at converters too. Seems like the easiest solution. Some just screw in to the light socket.
