Earlier this week my wife and I purchased a barndominium. The first thing I want to do is put our own touch on a few things. The first being the entry wall from the shop to the living quarters. As you can see from the picture below they just used plywood. I work out of town and will get my wife to get a full picture soon. But the entire length of the wall is 50'. Im estimating that the door is 35' from the left wall and 15' from the right wall.

My first idea was to trim out a 3' high corrugated steel panel wainscot and then use some type of horizontally staggered wood for the top wall.

Any ideas or pictures would be helpful. I can't seem to find something that I really like through google.

This is the picture of my barndominium wall minus the stuff. That was the previous buyers.

This is the wainscoting idea i had in mind, minus the overhangs.

Ok, it's a cool idea.
Because of the width-height ratio, I'd go with the wood vertical. I'd be very inclined to a board-and-batten to reinforce that verticality.

Another detail I've learned from using corrugated metal in interior use is to go ahead and use surface-mounted electrical boxes. The add to the look, make the sparkie's job easier, and subtract the need to make the fussy wood frames around all the outlets.

The other option is to box out a beefier baseboard or chair rail and tuck flush-mount electrical in that location.

That's my 2¢; you';; need another $4 for a happy meal.

you could use cedar pickets, new or used

I saw pictures of a barn one time where they used reclaimed planks from pallets and it looked pretty cool. They are a pain to remove due to the nails that they use to secure them.

I was searching something on google and my post popped up so it was only fitting to update the forum. Below are some updated pictures of the Barndominium wall.

Today, once i get off work I am going to finish the left side of the door with the corrugated steel wainscot. After that I will work on completing the washer and dryer storage underneath the stairs.

Idea for my washer and dryer cabinet under the stairs. I will use the same material that was used on the wall. The W/D will standing on an 18" platform for easier access.

Check pinterest.com. I typed in barndominium in the search field and found lots of cool pics/ideas.

BTW I am INSANELY jealous as this is what my husband and I want to build. We're just having a hard time finding a small piece of land around the area that isn't outrageously priced.

Neat project.

My dad just got finishing building a very similar barn/house (I had never heard of the barndominium term before). The entire structure is probably ~90'x180` The liveable portion is 2400sq ft on the first floor and has another 2400sq ft 2nd floor that's accessible from the interior stairs

I wish I had some pictures of it.

yup. Looks way better, and MUCH easier if you need to add, move, refinish whatever later!

The base board strategy may run into compliance issues. While NEC has not height requirements ADA calls out a minimum height of 15" and many local building codes also carry this restriction. Your gubment at work.

This past weekend I installed the corrugated tin on the complete left side of the wall. I was not able to finish the right side because I ran out of material. I guess I will be scrap hunting for 4-5 more sheets of tin. My plan is to begin building the W/D cabinet and then complete the right side of the wall. I will try my best to continue updating the progress.

I plan on posting an epic barndo build thread as soon as I have some time. We built one from start to finish. Damn thing ended up being a house inside of a barn but we couldn't be happier with what we've done. Hopefully I'll get it up in the next several weeks. In the mean time I'd be happy to share any specific experiences with anyone interested.

So we are almost done with the W/D cabinets under the stairs. All that is left is to hang the doors and then install the W/D. That won't happened until Tuesday when the hinges I ordered come in.

If all goes as planned the stair handrails should be complete by this weekend. Then from there the only item left to complete is the tin on the right side of the door. So I am hoping that by next weekend the wall will be complete.

Then comes the bathroom remodeling since there is extra space from the W/D being relocated.....

This weekend I was able to complete my barn wall. I had no idea this project was going to take me this long but I am very excited to have complete this project. Thanks to (DDMOVERS) for letting me take a trip to his place and gather up all of the tin that I needed to finish the right side of the barn. I guess I now I need to find another project to start...

The entire wall
