I've put the links to two youtube videos but I'm a novice at inserting URLs. If someone could make these live I'd appreciate it.

So I've got a Schumard Red Oak in my front yard. On the south side of the tree I've got some disturbing bark damage which you can clearly see in the first video. This tree was planted by the builder last June, and when planted it was probably 12 ft tall. I've also got some very small insects crawling all around the damaged area. I have noticed one or two leaves close to the bottom that have a red tint on the tips and they eventually dry up and fall off. There doesnt appear to be damaged leaves at the crown of the tree. The second video is to show the insects. Its hard to see them but they do not appear to be termites and I dont think they match up with the size description of the type of beetles that frequent Oak Wilt infected trees.

Looks more like freeze damage to the tree. The insects are likely just taking advantage of the easy access. Treat the insects with Talstar or something with the similar active ingredient and wrap the damaged area with tree wrap.
