What's the ball doing with your 3 wood versus other clubs?

Just got it. Seems solid off the tee and low thin off the ground but I have only hit 25 balls or so with it.

Also discovered that Ping tweaked the adapter slightly in the 440 so my evil plan for swapping shafts was killed

I hit a sub70 3 wood and I really like it. I hit it about 230. I'm probably a 8-10 handicap maybe? I've never really kept one. Anyways, I was gonna suggest just going and getting a quick lesson with whatever 3 wood you normally hit. If you're a 7, it's probably just a little tweak that's needed.

I was hitting it 230 off the tee and 210 off the deck. Good flight off the tee and thin low off the deck. Think it is probably tempo and ball position which I can tweak when I get back to the range….I hope!

After extensive back and forth I settled on the G440 Max with Tour 2.0 65g in it. I already have the 5 wood with the 75g shaft in it, so I can play around there some. 30 days trial from 2nd swing, so costs me $15 to try it out and send it back if I don't like it.

65 is too whippy...got Pinged on my switch out idea as they changed the adapter slightly from the 425 to the 440....

Hit it well off the tee, so I think the next step is the Ventus Red in the 440 head

I use a TM 3High. I can hit it off the fairway. May be in my head, but it is almost like a heavier Rescue club.

3w is one of my favorite clubs and I hit it off the deck all the time and love it. Had a callaway epic for like 7-8 years that I finally replaced a year or two ago with a callaway elite titanium. I play plenty of rounds with 3w only when playing like 6500 yards and absolutely love the club. A lot of newer ones are more flat on the bottom and aren't designed for turf hits, which is a big reason I stayed with the one I had for so long. The elite titanium seems to have a head more designed for turf use that isn't completely flat across the bottom and isn't a deep face it more shallow and compact which I like.

Edit to say those two 3 woods are the only callaway clubs I've ever owned. I don't like any of their other stuff but for some reason I feel like they have the fairway wood game figured out.

PING G440max 3w and 5w for me...

My 5w carries 238-243, my 3w carries 247-252. I've ben trying to figure out why I do not have more of a gap between the two. Cannot complain about my 5w, but why carry a 3w for only slightly more yards - makes no sense. Same shaft in both so gonna experiment with a different shaft in my 3w to see if I can get a little more out of it.


What is your launch angle and ball speed with the 3w?

I just changed the lofts on 2HY, 5Wd and 3Wd given a lengthy AI dialogue. Taking them out this week and will report back, but I only carry the Driver 235-245. I'm looking for 215-220 out of the 3 wood. If I get that, it would be a huge win.

I bought a 7 wood "mini spinner" from callaway that was supposed to be the easiest wood to hit. I can't hit the damned thing either. It has to be all mental

7.1 index...carry Ping G425 2 Hybrid that is great to 205...but that is it for me....Par 5's I'm just banging it out there 205 and then having whatever I have to the pin...Bought a Ping G425 5 wood that I hit great but the same distance as the 2 HY....tried the 3 Wood in the same and couldn't hit it....

So what is happening? Short? Slice? Fade?

Video your backswing ONLY on the longer club and compare it to the shorter wood. Get up to the top and stop.

If you're truly a 7, I'd say there actually may either be something wrong with that particular club or with the design of the wood that makes the 3 wood (what loft is it?) unworkable for some reason. The club may be dialed in for a particular swing speed.

Have you had a playing partner with similar ability hit it? If so, have you hit one of their 12-16 degree fairway woods to see how that goes?

I'd try all that. I hit my 16 degree Orlimar Trimetal+ 250 and change way back when. Not every single hit but semi-consistently. I'm sure that was prehistoric tech compared to your club. There's no reason you shouldn't be getting at least 240 out of a 13-14 degree club.

well...I have actually drifted to a 7.6 now....dropped off a couple Summer rounds...had actually moved to 8.X but threw 75 at it last week and now...here I am...

My game is built on fairways and short game. Somewhere around my early 50's, the distance escaped me. I don't bother chasing it and play within my comfort now.

On the FW woods...the AI tweak that was suggested worked great. Went out last night on my mini monitor and was getting the distance and dispersion that will work. 2HY at 190-195ish, 5wd at 205ish and 3 wood out to 220.

Looking forward to our Member-Member this weekend to put it into action...sadly....still at 6.6 for the tourney....
