Am I the only one that just cannot seem to hit one?

7.1 index...carry Ping G425 2 Hybrid that is great to 205...but that is it for me....Par 5's I'm just banging it out there 205 and then having whatever I have to the pin...Bought a Ping G425 5 wood that I hit great but the same distance as the 2 HY....tried the 3 Wood in the same and couldn't hit it....

someone please have the answer to a hitable 3 wood to get me to 220+

I carried a 2 iron for years because I hated hitting fairway woods.

They're tricky to hit off the deck, and expose any swing flaws you may have. Some people swear you just have to sweep them off the deck, and some people say you have to hit down on them like an iron.

Ironically, I think it's a bit in the middle. When I was a sweeper, I hit way too many thin. I had a buddy suggest playing them in the back of the stance to find a sweet spot for how much to hit down on them, and get a good feel for the right amount of descent. That made something click, and now I play a 13 degree 2 wood with a driver shaft as well as a standard 3 wood. They're such a weapon when working well.

Interesting thought about moving it back in the stance. Almost like trying to hit a stinger with it? I have always played them further forward to assist in getting airborn

I'm a sweeper with woods and love it, though the 3 is certainly the weakest of my collection (play a 3, 5 and 7).

If I'm looking at the 2nd on a par 5 and theres no real shot at getting home in 2, I'll probably reach for the 7 or 5 depending on where I need to be, but if its borderline around 230-240 I will give the 3 a try for the rip.

I play fw and long irons pretty back in stance. I can't elevate them like I should but much easier to hit solid and distance is what matters to me at that point on long distances

yeah, it felt like hitting stingers, but it just kind of taught me where my hands and club head needed to be in relation to the ball to get a solid strike. Then, I moved it forward again to the right flight. I still will practice with them back every now and then to get that feel.

I place the ball half way between the middle of my stance and my front foot when hitting 3-Wood. Farther back from where most people place the ball for the driver. That's the spot I found i could hit it the most consistently. I hit it pretty solid most of the time, but still go through little spells where I'll start scalding it. The 3-wood is just a tough club to be consistent with. When it's on though, it's very handy. Especially off the tee on certain holes.

I'm a 7.0 and they are Callaways. Newer AI Smoke for the 7 and the 3/5 are Epic.

Recently replaced the 4 hybrid with the 7 wood and very glad I did. Get the same 205ish with it, but its so high, lands soft and much more consistent for me. The 5 is 215-220ish

you may try switching to a shallow face vs a full face if you haven't yet. Shallower tends to be easier to get in the air

For a 3wood I do not. Mine is an older Stealth 2 that's full face. Like Milkman, I have a Calloway 7wood and it is shallow and a good club. Best I can suggest is go to PGA Super Store or Golf Galaxy and just compare models side by side and maybe try in their hitting bay.

I was hoping someone had a "this thing cannot miss" kind of "I used to struggle also and found this" kind of story...

Just came through an iron renewal....was hoping for a quick fix on this one...

I play stiff shafts across the board, even as an older 60+ (slightly) player. Not a long ball hitter, but above avg for my age. No issues with elevation of the ball except for the 3 wood, until I went to a fitter with a specific distance and flight in mind. Had a Stealth2 3w HL to help get height but not really controllable for me and distance lacking. While fitting for a new 3w fitter he snuck in a regular shaft (although he likes all my other clubs stiff shafts) on a Ping G440 Max (stock blue Alta). Bingo. Thing is almost stupid easy to hit. Great trajectory, does exactly what I wanted. Just a quick reminder to self at address to wait for it on the downswing.
"Green" is the new RED.

My solution was to get rid of my 3w. I play an 18 degree 5w with adjustable hosel set to 17 degrees of loft. Shaft is an inch shorter than a 3w and I think that helps too. Easier to hit solid and a little higher trajectory.

Same outcome if you can find a true 4w, though I think in standard form it would be a longer shaft than a delofted 5w.

I think something like this is going to be the way. I recently changed to 80g MMT shafts in my irons but still play stiff in the driver and hybrids. My G425 hybrid is the same feel where I have to think about dropping in smooth and letting the club do what it does. When I do, its pure

I went to a mini-driver and dropped the 3 wood.

Generally happy with the choice.

That's the main usage for me.

Off the tee is too much height (with my swing).

I absolutely love hitting my 3 wood off the tee. I suck royally at hitting it off the deck.

Probably not near as helpful as asking the internet for help. Good luck.

Another internet jackass to the ignore feature!

Always wonder in these situations what makes a person so bitter in life that they come on a message board to be a ****** about folks having a conversation on the message board...Probably fascinating psychology there....

I's go back to that 425 and try different shafts, starting with the Ping Tour 65 and tour 75. The stock alta shafts don't work for me in the driver or the woods, but I hit those chrome shafts a mile

I don't hate that plan. I think Im going to start by putting the 5wd shaft in the 3 wd and work that a bit. i have a couple 3 wood shafts in the basement, so will tinker a bit also. Like a lot of the ideas above
