Definitely hits it good. Some were peeved he was even there but what else is he gonna do if he likes to compete?

Don't want to argue with you but since you asked....He can try and qualify for any senior pga event, any us open or senior open, probably hundreds of money games etc.

There's probably more competitive events for former pros per capita than there are for us mere amateurs. I've played in two mid am qualifiers, I was competitive in one and not in the other. I hope to do one again in the future but it would suck if I end up in a playoff and I look over to see Colt Knost.

Just my opinion. I have no control or say in it so i'll play however the USGA sees fit.

I get it. For me it was a chance to see how I stack up head to head. so, in that regard I enjoyed it, but it would get old to see it happen again and again, yes.

On a semi related note, I think the Houston City Am champion is a former professional.

He shot -12 and second place shot -1.

Played college golf at Sam Houston, made 1/5 cuts on the Canadian Tour earning $476.00. Can't really find anything else on him. Currently the HC at Deer Park HS. This is one of those I don't have an issue with personally.

And from an individual/objective standpoint, you're probably correct. From a high level, does having any type of professional experience regardless of the results give someone like him a meaningful advantage in amateur events.

To be clear, I have nothing against the guy - I think he won a few years ago as well. Just thought of this thread after this weekend.

I think there should be a path, but it should be very strict. 5 starts on the Canadian tour with a grand total of $700 is certainly one of them.

So y'all are good with NFL & NBA players neing able to go back & play in college, correct?

Just want to make sure. Because there is no difference between that and a pro golfer, any pro golfer, somehow becoming an amateur again.

There's a world of difference....the first and probably biggest difference is that the USGA allows it and always has.

This is where it gets messy. He also played over 70 events on the APT Tour, earning about $66k, over several seasons. And over 30 events in the STPGA as, I'm assuming, a golf professional probably working at a local club, earning another $23-24k. Could be more out there, ex. FairWay Golf Tour.

I don't know the answer here, and I don't know where I'd draw the line, but it certainly gets blurrier. That's a lot of playing for prize money to later come back and beat up on the local amateur community as a +6.
