I think he is in a bad mental space with all the LIV stuff swirling down the drain and no $400 million he is allegedly asking for in the offing.

I'd agree. I assume he is under a lot of pressure off the course.

I have a BS in Chemistry & a doctorate to boot. I'm a science guy. That said, as technical as the golf swing is, and with all the scientific applications you can apply to the game, at the end of the day…………great golf is an art form.

I just feel like he's become so mechanical, he's sucked all the touch and feel out of the game & it shows. The human body is not an Iron Byron and it isn't designed to function as one. Nor are our bodies the exact same every day. You have to adjust to the aches and pains, the stiffness, and the minor quirks.

Many years ago a buddy and I got paired up with a married couple on a Saturday morning. He was French & she was South Korean. My buddy was having a bad day and was starting to verbalize to anyone that would listen his swing flaws.

After a bad drive, he turns to the lady and says something about his failure to get his wrist into the correct position. She looks at him and says to him in a thick Korean accent, "you think too much…….just hit ball."

Quite good advice really.

"Does he still want to be a serious golfer?"

I'd say at present the body of evidence says "not really."

Not surprising that YouTube challenges and LIV tournaments don't have him playing at his best in the majors.

He has been, and still can be, really good. It's mind-boggling. I have always considered myself a Bryson guy. I like that he is his own person and sort of a mad scientist. But a lot of what he's said ("I could do so much for the PGA Tour") is completely tone deaf, and his approach to the game is clearly no longer working. He needs to go back to being an actual golfer. I don't know what that looks like (ditching the single length irons?), but changes need to be made or he'll just be a higher earning version of Rick Shiels.

He was a US Am champ, NCAA champ, and 2 time US open champ with his single length irons, so not sure that is an issue IMO. I do think all this speed chasing he's done has put his equipment right on the edge and if it isn't perfect for that swing speed he has problems. why not throttle back some to low 180's ball speed and play equipment with regular faces like everyone else?

he needs a psychiatrist, once he starts stinking it up he can't get out of his own head and keeps stinking it up.

that korean lady is right

I'd like him to try something waaay outside the box and try conventional length wedges.

7iron length 60 and 55 wedges is asinine to me.

I think his problem is between the ears. He's pathologically incapable of being wrong and cannot handle not being able to figure something out. LIV bs (much of his own making) has him backed into a corner with no easy way out.

How many hundreds of millions of dollars did LIV pay him?

Plus what he made in his pre-LIV days.

Hard to be motivated when you have already banked 100s of millions of $$$.

That is what makes what Tiger did and what Rory is doing so impressive. Look at Spieth, Thomas, Day, Fowler. They should be in their primes but they are shells of their former selves. Still living good lives on tour, but very seldom in contention in any tournament, much less majors.

All of those guys you mentioned have battled a lot of injury problems. That by itself is an issue, but I expect that it also changes your perspective. Especially when you add in having a young family at the same time as when you're not capable of performing at your best.

The injury thing is what makes Adam Scott's consective major record incredible.

Which is why what Tiger did and Rory is doing is so impressive. They have had injuries, families, and drama in personal lives and kept on winning at a high level.

Life on the spectrum. Sometimes it works for him. Sometimes it works against. He's in an "against" phase.
