Slowing down from the work side of things here next year. Wanting to learn to play the game (correctly). Where would you start? Lessons at club, something like PGA Store instruction, etc.?

Get recommendations for a good golf instructor in your area and take lessons. I see too many people watch youtube videos and go hit countless balls on the range, but having a good instructor to give you live feedback is worth the investment.

Lessons for sure. And highly recommend a place where you can watch your swing on video - this assumes you are a visual learner.

If I had to learn golf from the beginning, I would start with putting. Really learn the proper stroke and how to read greens early on. Then, I would learn how to chip and pitch. Next, bunker shots. Then short irons, mid irons, long irons, and the last thing would be the driver.

I would start with a lot of time, money and patience.

Work is slowing down so you decide to kick yourself in the nuts every day? Bold.

Jk… get lessons. Buy cheap clubs until you get your swing dialed in. Then get fitted.

Get a set of beginner lessons. Maybe 6 weeks-ish. Practice what they teach you at least once in between. You will still suck badly, but this is how you get the foundation of good habits that will start you on the path to getting the most out of whatever skill you have. And it is incredibly difficult to unlearn bad habits

If you can't get off the tee and can't get a ball near the green in regulation, it doesn't matter how good your short game is. I think excessive putting and chipping practice is misspent effort initially

Prepare to be infuriatingly mad and extremely happy. The game will knock you down but at the same time can provide some of the most gratifying moments you can experience. It will knock you down a lot more…

I would definitely start with lessons so they can show you the basics of the grip and setup. Do not skip out on practicing putting and chipping. I have seen a duffed chip cause clubs to be thrown and broken lol.

Reverse psychology maybe? That way when you get to GI irons you gain some confidence?

Yes, preferable new and off the rack. And start with ProV1's.

I have that book. I'm going through it a chapter/section a day.

I started in October. Got a few lessons and have been playing several x a week since then . I feel like it's 2 steps forward , 3 backward , 2 forward , 3 backward so far . I'm losing fewer balls now than I was at first so maybe it's not as bad as I thought.
