Just an FYI for those who are weekend warriors around the Houston area...

I haven't been out to cypresswood in at least a decade. My son has a HS tournament out there in a few weeks so we took him there yesterday evening to see the course and squeeze in some holes.

I was REALLY surprised at the condition of the Tradtion course there. I full on expected goat track or near goat track status from what I remembered. It was in GREAT shape. Especially considering the drought we've had. Tees, fairways and greens were all good grass. I walked so got to see a lot of the course. I only found 2 spots on greens that were struggling. And both were small areas.

Not to mention, they had a tournament that went out at 10:30. They opened up twilight times startin at 3:50. We were 2nd group. Had 3 people in front of us. Finished all 18 in right at 2.5 hours

Maybe we both got bad memories but I don't remember it ever being in bad condition. It was always better than most public courses in Houston (which is not saying much).

Tradition is a fun layout. It has 4-5 holes that makes you really hit your spot. The other one… BAD. I had a TXGA qualifier out there this summer and they cancelled it the day before and moved it to Tradition because of how bad of shape it was in.

Traditions has been in great shape forever. the other course, cypress is hit or miss but I enjoy the layout

They are finally putting some money into a clubhouse I think

I was really disappointed when they closed the Creek course. I thought the layout was fun, and it was never crowded when I played it.

The greens were insanely slow today. I don't know if spoiled by memorial, but they were insanely shaggie and looked like they hadn't been cut for a few days / week

Only traditions hole I didn't like is a par 3 that used to have a lake that has been drained so now it's a giant bunker.

The only hole I can think of would be 14, but there was never a lake there. It was always a waste area, but Harvey flattened the steep slope to the right side. That hole has been softened/made easier, for sure.

In general, Tradition is one of the best public courses in town. I do miss Creek though. That was a fun course.

Learning about creek sent me on a Google earth rabbit hole about closed courses in Houston, especially places I grew up playing in West Houston. Really depressing how much gets flattened to make another row of track homes

RIP Old Orchard. Wife and I took our engagement photos there around some of the old buildings.

Me and the boy also played Battleground out in Deer Park, Greens and Fairways were fine, half the tee boxes needed a jackhammer to get a tee in the ground.

$5 for the kid to play, bargain!

No.

Shadow Hawk is the place that was adjacent to Old Orchard. Black Hawk is a rename of the Houstonian, next door to Shadow Hawk.

Old Orchard was an awesome course. One of very best in the entire area before they closed it.
