I need your golf wisdom.

Recently, I was gifted a $5k gift card from a family member whose country club membership had ended and it was the only way to cash out.

This gift card can be used at any of the invited clubs (formerly club corps) for:

Golf
Anything sold in pro shop (including clubs)
Food at any of the restaurants (breakfast lunch & dinner)

Here is a list of the participating clubs: https://www.clublifenetwork.com/invitedrewards

My question is: How should I use the $ to get the most value out of it?

My first thought is: these are private clubs and this gift card grants me access to them. Therefore, the best value would be to use this to play some exclusive places like Firestone, quail hollow, las Colinas, or places near where we might be vacationing in the future like Hilton head, outer banks, Florida, Colorado, or California.

My wife is game for anything, but she suggested using it for date nights because some of the clubs have great dinner options (we are in the Dallas area)

What would y'all do?

Your thinking is correct…

Use it to play as many of their ELITE courses as possible…

Buy some "swag"…

I wouldn't waste it on food or play at their more pedestrian courses…

I'd use it to play some of the better courses, and then sell maybe half of its worth and make a grand or two.

don't waste it on date night crap.

I played it a couple days ago and it's the furthest thing from a great track. They just did a bunch of work and overseeded Rye in prep for the Byron Nelson and half the fairways are bare. The half that do have grass aren't mowed and muddy. On top of that, it's a boring course even in good condition. I wouldn't play there again any time soon if it were free.

100% agree, its a boring course. fairly flat and baren fairways. Only 1 or 2 holes are unique and even rememberable.

Just to be clear, this Quail Hollow isn't what you're thinking. The Quail Hollow you're likely thinking of is in Charlotte. Just FYI

If it was me, I would play a few rounds and then perhaps buy a new set of clubs and gear (balls, gloves, shorts, shoes, etc.) basically set yourself up for a few years of golfing. Might not be a good route if you don't play a bunch though.

none of the courses are bucket list. (I'm an invited member).

Is this instead of returning equity in cash? If true - what an incredibly cheap move by CC.

You should make sure that you can actually access all of those clubs. The invited network has different tiers. In the Houston area if you're a member of all of The Woodlands CC courses you can play all of the other Invited courses. But if you're a Hearthstone GC, you can't play The Woodlands courses. I would try and sell it or find people that want a new set of irons or woods and use the gift card to make the purchases and sell the equipment at a discount and you get the cash.

But 20 Scotty Camerons, keep one and sell the rest online for $225 a piece. Take the family member for a round at PGA Frisco as a thank you and pocket the rest.
