Anyone know how the backstory on how / why the Ryder cup and Presidents' cup got split europe / non-europe?

Ryder Cup been around for almost 100 years. Was just Great Britain and Ireland and then expanded to include all of Europe. Guessing someone saw how popular that was and generated the Presidents Cup. Been one sided since beginning for USA.

Yep, Ryder Cup expanded to all of Europe because the US kept kicking too much English and Irish ass. Sometime in the 90s they decided to fill the off year with the Presidents

Most international competitions are on paper. Team USA doesn't always oblige.

Something has to change to make it more competitive. I don't even watch anymore.

maybe less matches? not sure what else there is to do besides allowing the LIV guys to play and add a little more depth. Also need to play courses a little more unfamiliar to the US. This course is just like a regular PGA stop so these guys are playing a regular Tuesday practice round it seems.

Rough start to alternate shot.

Wasn't the President's Cup partly created because Norman was #1 in the world at the time and publicly was *****ing because he would never be able to feel like part or a RC team?

I can understand how that would suck for non US/Euro golfers (or just the Brits before them), but even including LIV guys (who the INT'L team definitely needs) isn't going to fix the issue of no juice for this event.

I'd scrap it and do a world's cup of the 6 major continents. do a draw for 2 pools of 3 teams each with each pool winner advancing for a Sunday 36 hole finish of foursomes followed by match play or something.

NBC "fix" is on today…. Internationals up BIG. Had to find some possible way to garner some interest/viewership over the weekend vs. football

The format only needs to move to alternate shot and the Americans will crumble. No conspiracy. Just consistency.

How many birdies have Im/Matsuyama made? They are about 7-8 under in alternate shot. The entire team is throwing absolute darts and making nearly every putt.

Still believe they need to scrap this entire format and go away from a competition basically mirroring the Ryder Cup…. Having multiple smaller teams from throughout the world (Asia, Australia/NZ, E Europe, W Europe, N America outside the US, E USA, W USA, etc…), with initial rounds of stroke play to then qualify for match play similar to NCAA would be outstanding.
Firmly believe it hurts the Americans in the Ryder Cup to have to play in one of these every year while the Euros get to gear up only every other year.

They're up 18 holes. Never seen anything like it. US really just hoping to win one. They are basically done in 3, and have a chance to win one and tie one at best. Most likely case right now is 4.5 points.
