Prayers for him and his family. Seemed to have turned it around after discovering or re-discovering his faith.
Dang, do we know what happened? Seemed he was in a much better spot the last 6-12 months.
No one has said, but everyone who is talking about it on tv seems to be skirting around suicide. They are focusing hard on his mental health and recovery.
Not jumping to conclusions, but mental health is a hell of a thing. Doesn't matter if you're a professional playing golf for a living or living in the street. Brain don't care. Prayers for him and his family.
Hoping not suicide. Saw he had the WD yesterday. He seemed very at peace in Hawaii when he won with his fiance there.
He withdrew yesterday because he was feeling ill. Hoping it wasn't self inflicted. But with him being sick I'm gonna wait until we hear officially

I wouldn't rule out severe dehydration.

Really sad…. I have two cousins and an uncle who committed suicide.
Take this with a huge grain of salt but a reddit user who knew Murray said that he fell off the wagon a few weeks ago. That he was verbally abusive to his fiance who ended up postponing the wedding which caused his downward spiral.
I do find it odd that his parents' statement did not mention his fiance.

Yep. That's very telling.

Just extra context that may or may not have had anything to do with it. He shot 68 (-2) on Thursday, then shot +2 on the front nine on Friday, then three straight bogeys to put him right around the cut line on the back nine before he walked off the course on 17.

It can come out of nowhere. I experienced it with a good friend of mine (lunch buddy, golf buddy, went with me to Scotland). I had breakfast with him on a Saturday before golf, played golf, had lunch, went and played a hot 9. He killed himself early Monday morning. I knew he was having some financial issues, but never saw a hint of anything 2 days before it happened. I was numb the rest of the day.
I've read and been told that once somebody makes that decision, a weight is kinda taken off of them and you don't necessarily see what you think you would see in someone contemplating that.
About a month away from 5 years for my friend. We all still remember him and talk about him.

The saddest part is that your biggest enemy is the thing that's supposed to help you understand. People don't grasp the magnitude of being betrayed by your very thoughts. It's insidious.

I can confirm this (via a coworker with a family member on the tour, who knew Murray well). He had been doing really well for a while, was clean and attending a regular bible study group for guys on tour. When his fianc called off the wedding a couple of weeks ago he spiraled immediately and went downhill fast.
Feel awful for all involved, including the ex-fiance who has to live with that for the rest of her life (not that it was her fault in any way, just that the breakup led to suicide).
