Any tips or old sayings about when you have to hit off really wet, mushy ground? I find that I hit it fat every time and splatter mud everywhere. Doesn't matter which club I use, same result. Yeah, yeah, don't hit it into the mud and it isn't a problem.

Not sure I've hit off the mud recently....

But I'd play it like fairway bunker.

Dig my feet in some so I don't slip.

Choke down on the club.

Look at the top of the ball.

Arm swing.

Mud around the golf course should fall under temporary ground under repair imo unless you're playing out of hazard.

If it is a chip around the green, lift the heel of the wedge off the ground at address, leaving just the toe to interact with the ground. Less club surface area for the mud to grab during the shot.

Play lift, clean and place, preferred lies....so move it to dry ground and call it good, haha. Find a nice dry lie and send it!!!

Don't play the cheapest muni golf course in the area. There is a reason it is cheap.

Like others have said, pick the ball like a fairway bunker.

All good tips. Sadly in the northeast around this time its just permanently muddy and wet for all of winter even if its sunny and not too cold.

I don't think there's really a tip for making good contact off of a thin/muddy/wet lie. I guess I tend to put the ball further back in my stance, but I think you just have to do whatever you can to make perfect contact.

sounds like a lift, clean and place oppty in any and all situations.

I suck at golf and still after 3 years trying to figure it out, but if it's played like a fairway bunker, for me i don't play all fairway bunkers back in my stance when i just need to get it up higher to clear the lip. I'll put it more forward in my stance and hit a higher lofted club but try and hit it clean so I will choke up and obviously not rest my club on the sand.

As far as hitting off of mud, if it's recreational golf, just lift clean and place it. If the bunkers are also muddy in low spots, my group might say play it out of the bunker. No sense in having a no-fun golf round to pretend you are on the PGA tour, which btw they get to play off much better courses than we all do.
