In the market for a new putter. What brand should I be looking at? Or is it all about feel? Assuming I shouldn't just buy one online before I try it?

Find one of the mega stores that has a giant stock to choose from. Find whatever shape fits your eye best, whatever type of grip fits your hands best, and whatever weight and length give you the best distance control. Then, if you're buying new, ask them to order one with the specs you've found.

Or get a putter fitting for all the above.

Go hit them at the store and choose whatever you like and fits your price point.

Just bought a Ping DS72 after using an Odyssey blade putter for years. It's by far the best feeling putter I've ever used and I've never felt more confident on the greens.

What kind of putting stroke do you have? Straight back and through, slight arc or big arc? That will determine if you want a toe weighted putter or a more face balanced one. Knowing where you tend to miss hit(toe or heel) helps as well. Another determining factor would be whether you like a soft or more firm feel.

Do your research before you go in to try them out if you know your putting stroke, or as khaos288 said, go for a putter fitting to find out what would best fit you.

I just went back to an Oddesey white hot versa after putting like **** with a Scotty for a while. Love the versa as it helps me with alignment but the ball comes off so much hotter than the Scotty and that is taking some getting used to. I feel like the mi****s stay on line and roll way closer to the same distance than the Scotty.

But like everyone else said, it's so personal that you should go to a big store and just putt with them all until you find your comfort zone.

Is this physiologically possible?

Just go hit em all and see what feels right and what speaks to you.

I did that last year and came home with the Mizuno blue M.Craft. Sexiest putter I've ever laid eyes on... makes me excited to go putt.

This. I went to GG and just tried out a handful that caught my eye. Ended up with an Odyssey Stroke Lab putter with a jumbo grip. My advice: don't buy blind.

I really want to try an Edel. I know it's all marketing but I like their whole philosophy about helping you aim. Never putted with one but I think I'm going to give them a shot for my next one.

I was a Ping guy for a long time but switched to an Evnroll last summer and love it. But yeah, go to a big box store and try a bunch.

I'm not sure if it is possible to get an absolutely perfect straight back and through stroke, but some people definitely have straighter putting strokes than others. The pros you see using large, face balanced mallets(like Brian Harman) tend to have very straight putting strokes, while guys like Tiger(very strong arcing stroke) tend to use toe heavy blade putters.
