Smylie and Kiz are a good pair to man the 16th. Fun coverage.

Me too and that's what's great I love the party in Phoenix and the tradition of the Masters. Room for both in golf.

They are the polar opposites when it comes to decorum.

PGAT making LIV looking like a bunch of Baptist. I don't mind a party and some beer but judging by the videos it looks like it's Haply Gilmore in real life.

16th hole is great and good for golf. At the same time show a little restraint. Good grief.

My buddy was in a box on 16 both Thursday and Friday. His wristband allowed for 10 drinks per day but they only scanned it a couple times over the two days. Said it was like rodeo cook-off.

I wasn't there so this is speculation but I think facilities were overwhelmed with the number of people. The weather has been so bad this week people that intended to go days before showed up. Heard parking was impacted because a lot of the dirt area areas were too wet and they had to bus people from farther away.

Should be sunny today though still below normal temperatures. Should be an interesting day.

WM seems like a **** show. An excuse for a bunch of people to get drunk in public during daylight. No thanks.

This looks like extremely poor planning - hire more security with all the extra $$$$ you are making with high ticket sales and alcohol revenue. Kick people out who are a danger to themselves or others and keep the party going at a manageable level.

The Players seems to have figured it out. I go for the golf but enjoy the rowdier atmosphere on 17 - I don't believe I've ever reached the point where the non-golf fan/partier has hurt my experience.

I'm guessing 80% of the folks in attendance can't name a golfer playing the tourney.

IMO the WM Tourney are the ones to blame here. Every year they tout how much fun and rowdy the tournament is especially the par 3. I mean people go to this tournament strictly for the party with no intention to even watch a golf shot. If you're going to embrace that like the WMO does you damn well better have more security, more enforcement of drink cutoffs and you should be throwing people out on the spot. I'm sure the tournament will say they do that, but judging by the videos posted every year they do a piss poor job at it. It's no wonder it took the PGAT to make it an elevated event to get the best players there. It's a complete **** show.

I love the party atmosphere but they could do a better job encouraging a little more golf etiquette with the fans while the players are over the ball.

When you play it up like golf's version of Mardi Gras, it's only a matter of time till you get Mardi Gras behavior.

I think the weather played a big role this year as well. Thursday and Friday were wash outs so you had everyone try and blow it out Saturday.

This all depends on if you are asking as they enter or as they leave. As they enter, I bet it isn't over 79%. If it is as they leave, it is probably 95% can't even tell you their own name.

Agree, and also agree this is on tourney organizers. They pushed the envelope year after year. Combine that with some bad weather which will only Amp up the degenerates who will be more bored than usual and you've got a recipe for disaster.

Whatever the line was, it went overboard this year. Maybe today will be better after yesterday's shame.

Then again they can't even get started this morning due to frost delays.

Why is it that the PGAT wants to be mainstream just like the other big sports, but is the only sport that can't seem to have a good time?

Every other sport has huge festivities long before the even with alcohol sales and are much more aligned with high intensity, over the top people that are much conducive to a riot. Yet, there's rarely issues. And when there is, it's handled, people laugh, and everyone moves on.

Some drunks slide down a wet hill outside the area of play and we've crosses some make believe line of decorum. And they wonder why the vast majority of sports fans don't bother to watch.

The atmosphere people are decrying is the exact reason more people watch a meaningless tournament in the desert than the Rider Cup or Saturday rounds of the US Open or Players Championship.

I lived in NOLA for 3 years. NOPD don't do anything to police Mardi Gras. You gotta stab someone to get arrested in that town.

the drunk sliding down the hill wasn't the problem yesterday. That wasn't even a blip on the radar on some of the things happening.

Most sporting events take place in a confined area with enough security in place for crowd control. Golf takes place in a 200 acre area where competitors and the crowd walk a fine line separation. Unlike other sports, golf kinda demands crowd silence before and during a swing. Unfortunately WMO lost control over the crowd as many attendants were let in without even being scanned. My understanding is it was the PD and FD that halted the alcohol sale.

And the fact that you can be there for literally 12 hours. That's a lot of time for drinking. Don't have that option at a baseball game.

Yes, it's truly amazing that an MLB batter can hit a 100mph pitch cutting away with 25K fans standing and cheering or or a basketball player can hit a free-throw with opposing fans doing everything imaginable to distract them when the game is on the line, but a pro golfer can't hit a stationary ball on a tee without complete silence on hole #3.

Look, if you want to wear sweaters tied over the shoulder and pretend a PGAT tournament is high tea at the country club, fine. But the pretentiousness is why golf will continue to lag behind other sports.
JCA1

Golf lags behind because it's an expensive sport that most can't access on a regular basis. Not sure there's much that can be done about that.

And while I'm ok with making golf less stuffy, golf isn't baseball. At some point, you just gotta realize you don't like golf if everything about the way it is played bothers you.

Couldn't careless golf lags other sports as I'm not a fan of golf as a spectator. But I'm a participant of the game and will continue as long as I can unlike other sports sans pickle ball... And not a fan of it either. I'm sure you love your 4 some cheering you on as you set up for your next shot playing golf.

Except this is just an untrue excuse. Youth sports are where this matters and that's not the case today with uniforms and little league / travel costs.

My oldest daughter is a junior golfer. She's quite good and has exceeded a lot of expectations. While we can't afford a club membership, her JPGA program, practicing, or even playing on a JPGA discount doesn't make it any more expensive than other youth sports she explored.

The problem is many in the community still want to make golf the sport of the elite like its polo or hound hunting. This isn't 1800 Scotland and golf being played only by those owning a castle. So stop trying to pretend that's how it should be "enjoyed".

What happened? I wasn't there but talked to some of my friends that were. There were drunk people and they cut off sales. People with good any day grounds passes all came yesterday because of the weather. They closed the gates after 200K got in.

This thread took a weird turn when none of us, that I know of, were there.

I don't need an excuse to say I suck or hit a bad shot. That's going to happen as a 15+ handicap with young kids and no club membership. I also don't need to pretend that throwing on slacks and playing golf somehow boosts my ego or esteem.

There's times I take rounds more serious and those times have nothing to do with my playing partners not being able to play music or joke around or have a good time. And I sure as **** don't want them to feel they can't heckle me or talk crap when I hit a bad shot. That's on me to focus and tune it out when necessary just like any other thing in life.
