I'm in the early stages of prepping a storage room for one. Any feedback or direction on golf simulators you've learned about or experienced would be appreciated.

Here is the best resource: https://golfsimulatorforum.com/

I built mine with a Foresight GC2 (now discontinued) in 2016. So many more options out there now to choose from. Choice really depends on features and price point.

Many thanks. If deciding on a new one, what factors would be key for your decision?

This spreadsheet from the GolfSimulator subreddit is a good resource for comparing options at different budgets.

We have a Bushnell Launch Pro in the office that we're super happy with. The cheaper options felt a little too casual for what we wanted. We use GSPro for the sim software and got the hitting surface + enclosure from GungHoGolf who are based here in Austin. All in for enclosure / turf / launch monitor that put us around $8k after taxes. You could probably shave off ~$2k or so if you go used/refurb on the launch monitor and then DIY the enclosure. You can save some more money by sourcing the launch monitor from somewhere like Puetz Golf who doesn't charge sales tax to Texas.

Definitely do not skimp on the hitting surface. A cheap mat can lead to some pretty nasty tendonitis. However you can save some money here by going cheaper on the turf then cutting out an area where you'll be hitting off of where you can just drop in a nicer hitting strip that you can pull up and replace once it starts to show wear.

I've had some semblance of a sim for years. I've got the original skytrak, but agree with the above.

Buy a nice mat. After that, you can get by with whatever else you want. I have mine running off an ipad and TV. I have mine in my garage, and am considering a mini split AC this year. Otherwise, it's awesome.

Besides budget, room is the biggest factor. Namely ceiling height + room behind the ball comes into play on launch monitors. I have a Skytrak which sits next to the ball so space isn't an issue for it, but there are other sim options that require more room behind and/or in front of the ball.

And 100% echo not skimping on a mat. I went with the Fiberbuilt 4X7. Mucho deniro but my elbows love it. Also much more realistic on fat shots vs some mats bounce your club into the ball which can lead to bad habits. Nothing like feeling like you are striping the ball with good contact, only to find on a real course that you have trained yourself to to fat it a bit and therefore play like crap.

Echo'ing what Danny said. Room space will be a factor in deciding between Sims. We are currently building ours out to be a combo play / theater / golf simulator room and love it. Got most everything I needed from Carls place and GungHo + a fair amount of DIY

Currently have the OG skytrak, but will probably look to getting a step up in quality over the next couple of years. The skytrak works well 90% of the time, but the 10% of the time it doesn't is frustrating (not being able to get reads on short shots or other mis-hits).

I am building mine as we speak.

Retrofitting my existing media room into a hybrid media/sim.

Retractable screen and roller from One Stop Sim shop.
Bushnell Launch Pro (with club data) -refurb ($3k)
Lots of turf and foam from a buddy.

I'm in it for about $6k right now. I'll post pics later. It's about 1 week from being done.

I have a GC Quad sim setup. It's in a shed I had built. Feel free to reach out if you have questions.

Forgot to add what ever dimension the recommended you need to add either width or length for people to sit or watch …the sim is 12'x17' x 9 but you need about 20 ft if you want to sit behind it and 15 to 16 ft wide to sit along the side

I put one in last year. There are a lot of factors you need to consider. The first is which launch monitor fits your needs. I started with the SkyTrack and hated it. The thing I didn't like about the SkyTrack was ball placement. It throws out a red dot where you have to hit from. If you don't get the ball in just the right spot it will sometimes not read your shot. If you have a friend who is lefty then you have to rearrange placement.

I sold it (at a huge loss) and bought the FlightScope Mevo+. That combined with The Golf Club 2019 is working great for me. Right now I am about halfway through playing Golf Digest's top 100 courses worldwide. Only one so far not available was one in Japan.

Ceiling height can be an issue if you are tall. I'm 6'2" and have 9' ceilings in my garage. Every once in a while I will get a little wild on a drive and scrape the ceiling.

Below is the list of stuff I bought.

I bought a trugolf vista 8 simulator prob 6 years ago.

I never really got it for the full golf simulator, more to practice my swing.

Unfortunately it never really got its use but worked well for what I wanted (stats and real time ball flight simulation)

If anyone is interested in a simulator and wants to look at this one, I'd entertain selling it

This post got me looking up new sims. The Uneekor eye mini looks promising if you only want to use in indoors
