Anthony Kim plotting return to pro golf after decade-long disappearance

Quote:

Kim has spent the last few months in discussions with the PGA Tour, LIV and potential sponsors as he plots a way back, multiple sources familiar with those discussions told GOLF. He's been playing more golf. He's been ramping up workouts. He's confident in his game. That part, people say, definitely hasn't changed. Now, it's just a matter of where he makes his return.

I'm in!

This has LIV all over it.

Phill needs to add him to the team and step back from playing to just manage / promote.

How exactly does one have "discussions" with the PGA Tour about playing? They don't just hand out tour cards at their discretion.

I believe he owes $10M back if he plays professionally again. So his options are LIV and whatever they offer + potential endorsements, or PGAT tournaments he can enter now, guarantees that he'll get sponsor exemptions ot key other tournaments + PGAT influence to increase or provide better endorsement deals.

Whichever entity gives him biggest reward to reduce the risk of paying back that $10M and earn on top of it wins I suppose.

He can surely get into almost any tournament he wants on past champion status &/or sponsor exemptions.

"discussions" with the tour would most likely be on how/where they can influence some of that and broker sponsorship deals that would cover the lost $10mil.

Not sure who, outside of Saudi golf, is lining up to give him guaranteed money. The tour is broke and sponsors are hard to come by.

That article or another one I read mentioned that LIV was not interested but DJ and some others have told them they should look into pursuing him.

I had no idea past champion status could get you into tournaments 10+ years later.

I'm sure plenty of random tournaments would jump on the sponsor exception. Seems like he could get into anything but the signature events/majors.

With how many players are jumping to LIV, he would 100% get a sponsor exemption into alot of events. The tour needs some new headlines.

He was a fun player to watch when he was on fire.
I hope he loses the man bun though.

Have you ever heard other pros talk about him? He's almost mythical. He'll definitely find a spot somewhere.
