Our group of 8 is taking a quick weekend golf trip to Hot Springs in April, and we have come up with the below format to create our own tournament that hopefully will become an annual thing. We've split into 2 teams of 4 players. Most of us are around 10-12 handicaps, with one guy playing around a 4-5 and one or two probably closer to 14.

Round 1: Points
2v2 game where each player plays his own ball. 5 points for eagle, 3 for birdie, 2 for par, 1 for bogey. Team of 2 with highest combined score on the round wins their match up. 1 point for matchup win, half point each for matchup tie.

Round 2: Individual Match Play
Speaks for itself. 1 point for match win, half point each for match tie.

Round 3: 2v2 Scramble
Speaks for itself. 1 point for win, half point each for tie.

At the end, whichever team of 4 has the most points for the three rounds wins. Pretty simple. I am curious how many here on the Golf Board do something similar. Those of you that do participate in something like this, what is your prize for the winning team besides bragging rights? Any recommendations on alternate format, scoring, etc?

More fun than bragging rights is the myriad of "I got last in my fantasy league" punishments

My younger group of buddies oppose scramble format as they like playing their own golf ball.

My older 60+ group of buddies are ok with a scramble format for the 2nd round of the day or latter rounds of an outing.

The most competitive outing, 8 of us Colorado versus California, it's 4 rounds, 2 best ball matches and 2 individual matches over 2 days.

We play for dinner and drinks.

Alternating shot so everyone is angry.

Make every group fully score, your point system, attest and return cards to you after each round so that you are literally writing in scores for all…. Not calculating. Time is scarce as all are cleaning up and calling home and you are headed out to dinner.

We have a group every summer that goes somewhere. It normally is 24 though we're trying to push to 28 this year. We have a draft in April and then the trip is in June..We play 3 rounds

1st Round: 2 points up for grabs in each match, 2v2 9 hole shamble and 9 hole scramble
2nd Round: 1 point is up for grabs in each match, 2 man best ball
3rd Round: 1 point in each match, singles matches.

It's a ton of fun and has been really enjoyable to be apart of the last few years. It's all handicapped based and the guy that runs it does a great job calculating it all in his spreadsheets and stuff to keep it a level playing field. Teams may get a pop here and there with the adjustments.

instead of Alternate shot, you have both player on a team hit a tee shot and then the partner plays they partners tee shot the rest of the way.

Even better idea, HumbleAg04…

Reverse scramble.

Play 2 from everywhere and the other team chooses which one the other team plays. The team with the most clubs in tact after the round wins.

Twice I went to Vegas with a group of 20 for a Ryder Cup style golf trip. The first two days were just normal rounds with handicaps, payout to top 3 and any skins. The RC play started day 3 with 2v2 scramble, day 4 was best ball, and day 5 was 1on1 handicapped. Losing team paid for dinner the final night.
