Looking to get my brother his first set of clubs for Christmas this year.

Not looking for anything crazy, just a decent set of clubs for anywhere around $100. Possibly up to $150.

Located in BCS

Can contact at 713 409 2184

Thanks in advance!

It is a little out of your price range, but you can get a new set of clubs and not break the bank. We bought my son Takomo Irons for less than $500, and he loves them. Wish i would have been aware of Takomo before I bought my TM set.....would have saved a ton of money.

The new Kirkland irons at Costco for $499, if you can still find them in stock.

I know it's kind of silly that you came here with a budget of 100-150 and immediately get recs for 3-4x that budget. TexAgs tradition. But in reality that budget, in 2023, is just really low for a half decent full bag of used clubs.

How old is your brother, what's his experience level? What about you? You're on a golf forum full of enthusiasts with college degrees. "crazy nice" could have a very different meaning around here.

There are a lot of 10+ year old game improvement irons that are still very relevant today for a beginner. They're also going to be more like $200 at least. And that's for just an iron set. You might be able to find irons for $100-150 if you get lucky and really know what to look for. 10 year drivers/fairways are still $30-50 each.

Pawn shops can have decent deals but even that's really hard these days. They all know how to use the internet too, and they can find the real value quickly.

Looking around on facebook market place and there are 10+ year old, full bags, in decent shape, but people are asking more like $300+ for them. $100-150 full sets are really old, mismatched messes.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Case in point ... several clubs short of a full bag, but probably all a beginner really needs.

Would be a cool challenge to see who can break 80 with those clubs...

Tangent Alert: what clubs does a beginner need? My grandfather taught me with a 5i and a putter. I'd say: driver, 3/4H, 8i, SW, putter.

Key search term for you will be 'game improvement'. They will be the most forgiving and better for beginners. Forgiveness is another good search term.

That's pretty solid. I'd probably say add a 6i to that.

The best deal in golf right now is probably still the Callaway box set at Costco. Newest version is out now, $540 at my club.

Driver
3w
5h
6-SW
Odyssey White Hot Putter with a Superstroke grip

10 clubs, and all a beginner could need for a good while.

For a budget like that I think you need to find a local golf shop where you can just put together a set. Doesn't need to be a full set for a beginner.

D or 3W. 3/4 hybrid. 6, 8 iron. Wedge. Putter.

Otherwise Craigslist/pawnshop/Facebook are going to be your best bets for a matching set.
