Talking only TX here. Courses you've played.

Worst: Faith Bridge in Monaville that's no longer in operation. Layout was decent but conditions were crap.

Best Condition: Houston Oaks. Greens and tee boxes were top notch.

Best Layout: the wilderness. I love the setup. Long and short part 4's and 3's. Makes you hit all the clubs in the bag.

Toughest: Traditions. It's tight and long and all the forced carry's always kick my ass.

Only play one the rest of your life: Wilderness. I love it there. Always in great condition and the layout I love. Also Twin Lakes RIP. Same as reasons above.

Worst: Tie between Duck Creek and Webb Hill

Best layout: Tapatio Springs

Best Condition: people go back and forth on Pine Dunes, but it was absolutely flawless when I played it 18 months ago

Toughest: honestly, my course. Rockwall Golf and Athletic. Tons of water, wind, you name it. It can eat your lunch the first time you play it.

Take all this with a grain of salt. I've only been playing for 3 years so I haven't played all that many different places. Also, the best courses are definitely outside of TX

Worst: Greenbrier in McGregor, now closed. Terrible condition and layout. We teed off on one hole and got to our drives and realized we had gone about 45 degrees the wrong way, that's how bad it was. Went back and re-teed.

Played a lot of courses in great condition. Briggs Ranch and Cordillera are two that come to mind.

Worst: Pasadena muni aka Ellington. Been forever since I've played there but it was always in sad shape. Some greens had St Augustine for grass

Best layout: Blackjack Crossing in Lajitas.

Toughest: old school Falls in New Ulm. Never played good there

Faith Bridge? Never heard of that one. What was the other course out that way that was Fox something? We used to drive out from Katy to play there.

Worst as far as the whole idea?… easy… Heron Lakes.

Worst course? Same.

Toughest might be Kingwood Island.

Best…? I haven't played them all… but it depends on what you're after. For the ones I have played, it's a toss up between the "experience" of having a day at Bluejack vs the quality of golf you get at Whispering Pines. Both top notch.

Best design? Walden Lake Conroe. That place stands the test of time.

Worst
Bryan Muni back in early 2000s (no irrigation and borderline not playable late in the year when it gets cold)

Best condition
Vaquero early 2000s, they had hired one of the greens keepers from Augusta

Best design/lay out
TPC Oaks maybe?
Really like Timarron's layout

Most fun
Bluejack...a very unique golf experience. Not something I would want every time I played but very fun

Are you trying to start a fight? Hole 18 is gimmicky. Hole 16 was probably inspired by putt putt. All they did was replace a gorilla in the middle of the green w a bunker!

Agree with Bryan mini when we were in school.

Hardest I've played has been Old American in about 15 mph wind gusting to 20/25. That place ate my lunch and I hate Justin Leonard's shatty bunker placement out there.

Most fun layout just for the hell of it: Hancock in Austin. It's a fun little 9 hole course. Wouldn't go there for serious golf, but I've never not had fun there. The course layout is really neat.

Worst layout: Trails of Frisco. Wouldn't call it a bad course per se, but I really didn't like the layout here the one time I played.

Course I don't like: Sherrill Park

If I had to choose one course to play forever: Grapevine GC

Fun topic. I don't live in Texas anymore but it's fun to reminisce about the golf.

A poster here did it and jja is obsessed with it because the possibility of doing it in a day is outside the limits of his elderly imagination.

Not really. I thought it was great. Driving 850 miles round-trip with a round of golf included is impressive. I did hit the max social security benefit age yesterday so you got the elderly part right.

Worst: Fannin Oaks in Madisonville
Best condition: Pine Dunes
Best layout: High Meadows Ranch
Toughest: not sure. Played like **** at Wolfdancer/Lost Pines recently.

Worst: Nueva Vista, Midland. Driving range surprisingly good condition, but the entire course was hardpan. I think it closed recently.

Best: Ram Rock, Horseshoe Bay.

Layout: Rawls course, Lubbock. I'm a sucker for links golf, weather was also awesome when I played it.

Toughest: La Cantera Palmer course (RIP). Blind tee shots got old after awhile.

Best condition - Escondido in Horseshoe Bay.

Most fun - Palmilla in Port A.

Hardest - no idea.

Worst condition - Dos Lagos in El Paso. Played it growing up multiple times.

Worst? Lost Valley in Bandera. Should have remained lost. Only par 6 I've ever seen...like 800 yards.

It's been gone for a while.

I'll second Greenbriar in Moody/McGregor.

They only took cash, so you know everything was above board in the books.

I really liked Bryan Muni. Forgetting the murder behind hole 3 several years ago, it was good, clean fun. Like $19 to ride before it closed.

Worst: Heron Lakes

Best: Miramont

Toughest: Ehhh, it's usually about me, not the course

Sidenote: if People Creek doesn't fix their damn greens soon, they're going to start showing up on some of these lists.

Worst: Tennison Glen. Terrible conditioning, bad routing, not a great location.

Best: PGA Frisco Fields West. A fun, open but challenging set up.

Hardest: Ram Rock. Kicked my ass the few times that I've played it.

Favorite crappy muni: Keaton Park. Cheap, easy to get on with some fun, reachable Par 5s.

Worst: Lake Travis Golf Course. It's gone by a few names but the conditioning has been terrible no matter what they call it

Best Layout: Whispering Pines. Closing stretch is a treat!

Best Condition: Escondido. Doesn't get better than Zoysia faiways.

Bonus outside of Texas

Best Layout: Diamante Dunes. One of the most fun courses I've played, different options on numerous holes

Best Condition: TPC Sawgrass. Played twice and it was in perfect shape both times.

I'm surprised Los Rios hasn't made the list. First time I played it in the early 90s it wasn't bad. I played it in 1997 or so, and it was terrible.

Woah woah woah. Where else can you buy 50 balls for $20 on the back 9 and put into cups the size of a dinner plate?

The course in Navasota? Yes that place is awful. Several temp greens and bare spots in the fairways.
