Dos Lagos! Wow, had not thought of that place in years. I grew up in El Paso and played it often.
I hate hearing this. I used to play this course a handful of times a year, but havent been in probably a couple years. It used to always be in good shape for the price.98Ag99Grad said:
The course in Navasota? Yes that place is awful. Several temp greens and bare spots in the fairways.
That's a good pick. It lucky closed for good back into 2018. The modern day equivalent is Duck Creek in North Garland but Duck Creek is easily a tier below los rios even at it's worst.EMY92 said:
I'm surprised Los Rios hasn't made the list. First time I played it in the early 90s it wasn't bad. I played it in 1997 or so, and it was terrible.
I don't think you like Olympia Hills very much. Could be wrong.Obi Wan Ginobili said:

Dumbest Course - Olympia Hills - Terrible conditions, designed by Hellen Keller, police waiting at every stop sign to pull you over driving in. *Bonus* Cedar Creek - You may never in your life hit as many balls that land in the center of the fairway and wind up 20 yards right in the rough. You can't have fairways made out of green concrete that also slope sideways.
Best Layout - TPC Oaks/Canyon Springs/Oak Hills CC - I can't decide between these but this is America, so I don't have to. Each require every kind of shot, they are tough from the tips, but if you move up a tee box or two, they become manageable. A reachable par 5, a short par 3, and a driveable par 4. That's what good golf courses have.
Worst condition - This spot was reserved for Northcliffe, but that course died, so please welcome it's replacement, OLYMPIA HILLS. Seriously, how is this course simultaneously always soaking wet and still have so little grass? *Bonus* Hyatt Hill Country. Steep prices for a course that has so many dirt patches. I've never played it in good condition, but apparently it exists.
Best Slumpbusters - It's 1:45am, you're lonely and on your 8th Bud Light and you need an easy win. These courses represent that fine lady at the end of the night who will help you get your mojo back.
-Brackenridge - Short, flat, and nothing intimidating about it. You don't need driver, but you'll feel like a good if you're swinging it well and leaving yourself 40 yards on every par 4.
-The Alsatian - Again, very short, and there are birdies to be had everywhere. Back to back par 5s is kind of a fun touch, too.
-The Quarry - A fun course to walk (just not in the summer), birdied everywhere, and if you spray the ball off the tee box, half the holes inside the quarry have a rock wall to bounce off of to keep you in play.
*Bonus* The Buckhorn - Comfort is a bit of a hike, but this course just begs you to make birdie on every hole.
In memoriam - RIP to Pecan Valley, The Republic, and La Cantera Palmer Course, you'll all be missed. Well, I won't miss the Palmer course, that place was stupid, but to the others, farewell sweet friends.

Pecan Lakes is AWFUL! I don't know if the temp greens are still there but they were last time I played there and had been for a while. No notice of this in the clubhouse and no discounted price. And it wasn't a couple of greens, it was like 7 or 8....just knocked the fairway grass down with a weedeater, painted a circle with spray paint and threw a cup and flag in the middle. Will never go back. Course was a very good option for a long time, but that has passed.AustinCountyAg said:I hate hearing this. Talking only TX here. Courses you've played.
Worst: Faith Bridge in Monaville that's no longer in operation. Layout was decent but conditions were crap.
Best Condition: Houston Oaks. Greens and tee boxes were top notch.
Best Layout: the wilderness. I love the setup. Long and short part 4's and 3's. Makes you hit all the clubs in the bag.
Toughest: Traditions. It's tight and long and all the forced carry's always kick my ass.
Only play one the rest of your life: Wilderness. I love it there. Always in great condition and the layout I love. Also Twin Lakes RIP. Same as reasons above.
Worst: Fannin Oaks in Madisonville
Best condition: Pine Dunes
Best layout: High Meadows Ranch
Toughest: not sure. Played like **** at Wolfdancer/Lost Pines recently.
Pine dunes for best condition? wow
