I was lucky enough to win a stay and play there. Went in May 2022. I've played some other high end places (oakmont and victory ranch) and I can tell you this was easily #1.
Just what you'd expect from this level of place when it comes to course, service, facilities....everything
It is a very hard track and greens very fast. Lots of slope changes and some tiny greens!! Caddies had great knowledge to help. I liked the front 9 more than the back 9. There is SOME water on the course but doesn't really come into play a ton. It has a lot of sandy waste areas you can hit out of too (common to SC if you ask me or have played in that area).
Make sure to get some of the meat pies at the turnhouse. It's actually on #9 tee. Get some Colmans mustard on it too. All of the food and drink we had there was incredible so I really think you can't go wrong no matter what. Make sure to check with your host on dress code. If he's a member he might have one view. We were guests solo so I made sure to wear slacks and a sport coat just to be safe.
If you like to fish make sure to ask them for rod and reel. I'd say bring a small tackle box with spinner and texas rig and fish the pond on the drive in. Supposedly better fishing at ponds on the course but didn't press luck trying to go back there as could easily walk to pond from the cabin. Watch for gators!!
We spent about $500 in the golf shop and wish I had bought more!!
you can go in/out of Savannah or Charleston (unless your invite got you on private closer to Congaree as it's out in middle of nowhere). We love charleston so made it a long weekend. If you go to Charleson eat at Hank's and thank me later.
If you want a hole by hole description I'm happy to jump on the phone and discuss. Thinking about this place just brings back such a great memory!!
Here's a pic from #2 tee that my wife took..one of my favorite holes
