I rarely see Bent Water mentioned as a retirement option. It had three courses and is on Lake Conroe. The neighborhood contains a variety of different home levels.

Its definitely not the category of Houston Oaks, Bluejack or Escondido, but is there something I'm missing as to why its not considered more?

I'm still a ways from retirement but researching - taking a trip to Orlando next month and going to stop in The Villages to see what it looks like.

Were doing great - hope AZ is treating you well!

I plan on checking out the Villages layout, amenities, golf in person, etc. Anything else to do?

Lolol - just googled it. Overlooked that it was referred to as the STD capital. Definitely not part of the itinerary.

I've been there twice as a young man.

Retirees there aren't any different. They're living their best life. I'd say it's an American Middle Class Retirement Mecca where there are almost 150,000 retirees. Color coded loofahs and high STD rates are rumored as some deviant human behaviors and the rest of Americans virtue signal to mock them.

In a city of 150,000 with an age group over 55 where men die off first leaving easy picken horny older women who can't get pregnant, do we really think these women will have 3 bible studies a week and keep sabbath on weekends?

Golf is good, weather is mild, and the COL is manageable.

Yes, biggest crimes are drunk elderlies getting into fender benders with their golf carts at 10:45 AM or inappropriate public behaviors in the town gazebo (BJ in the Gazebo was a famous new cocktail in the villages).

Imagine what it would be like to put 150,000 people in a same age group in one enclosed area to live. That's what the Village is.

I live in a golf retirement community in Arizona so I know what you're saying. It's glorious to drive your golf cart on the cart path to the bar and back. Widows with big investment accounts and recent life insurance payouts make for interesting neighbors. I quickly found out I'm the only single man in my section so that's interesting.

You're right about this being about living your best life. These people are the friendliest, happiest, least stressed people I've ever met. I highly recommend it.

We don't have any communities as large as the Villages here so I think the dynamic is a little different. I've had the pleasure of meeting the poster who mentioned it at a couple of Texags golf outings so I hope he posts feedback after his visit.

Old men taking shots on the first tee makes for some interesting rounds. I'm not a day drinker so I frequently get left to sort out the scorecards and the money at the end.

This is unsolicited but looking at retirement area, my #1 criteria would be:

  • mild winters followed by
  • access to comprehensive health care then
  • major airport.

This is why I would go HO or BJN ahead of anything in the hill country. Airports are on a different level--and my money is on Houston getting way more JSX routes ahead of Austin.

Speaking of, maybe Vaquero should be considered even though it's not in Central TX--JSX out of Dallas is life-changing. Cannot emphasize it enough. But not sure I could settle for Vaquero with BJN available.

You know all your married buddies on the block are bleeding envy....

And of course there's nothing in life that's always a good thing. There are good and bad in everything. But the freedom to comply with Genesis 1:28 or at least to go through the motion should be highly coveted.

Older married people seem to be life's most unhappy.

I have no idea what JSX is but HO is Houston Oaks and I still have, at least for now, a membership there. BJN is Bluejack National.

What does the $215K go to if it's not an Equity Club?

Refundable when you leave?

That gets the guy at the gate to open it when you get there and then you pay your dues and charges. You don't get anything when you leave but a goodbye. I'm about to find out because I've moved and am letting my membership go. I do believe they've got to be approaching the max they can handle. The cost doesn't seem to a be an issue for more people than you'd think.

Are you in Phoenix area? I was in Tucson last weekend (Starr Pass) and really liked the area. Not retiring soon but always through Palm Springs or AZ in Winter would be ideal and elsewhere in the US rest if the year.
