What a pretentious response

The course is doing well given we haven't had rain in College Station in 2 months +. Jason Barrington and his team got to be working hard to keep the greens green and rolling as they do! The biggest defense the course has is the grown up rough that can be in some sneaky areas.

Yes they have beer. I don't care about the golf vs play golf, it's whatever. Some do,

I've played it twice in the last few months. When I played two weeks ago, it was in good shape.

If you haven't played it in a while, the layout has changed, I'd say for the better. As mentioned, the lack of rain has taken its toll but the staff spent most of July fixing the greens. The last time I played, I really didn't notice. When I played back in June it was very noticeable.

Say what you want, I've done extensive research in this area. 99% of people who say they're "going golfing" are 30+ handicaps who tell everyone they shoot "in the low to mid 80s." Yes, I know you're probably the 1%.

All pretentiousness aside, for real… if you ever have a boss or client that plays golf, and you ask them if you want to "golf" with you some time, there's a chance they'd avoid it due to the terminology. Personally, I really don't care what you do… but there's a chance you could be shooting yourself in the dick if you ask them to "golf." Carry on…

Sorry, but I do not believe you. This is absolute insanity.

If someone says, "hey man, want to golf after work today?"

And your answer is anything similar to "I would enjoy a round of golf after work today, but not with an ignoramus like yourself. In fact, you're fired/I don't want your business." Just give up on life. It's way too hard, and you're triggered way too easily.

I don't give 2 sh*ts if you believe me, but there are people who would pass and not "golf" with somebody. I'm not saying you'd be fired or that someone wouldn't do business with you… those are your words.

But there's a chance you won't be the first person your boss will want to bring out to River Oaks if you use golf as a verb. And there's also a chance that the prospective client won't go "golf" with you. Don't sit in a prospect's office and see a Masters flag and say, "Oh, you golf?"

You can choose to believe this or not, I don't give a sh*t. I'm more looking out than anything because it's not like someone new to golf or not raised at the course would necessarily know unless someone tells you.

One of those is insanely pedantic, and the other is maybe the first thing your grandpa teaches you on the course.

I sense you're actually being genuine though, so I'm sorry to laugh at it. I absolutely can't imagine correcting someone on that level, and I almost feel bad for people who take themselves that seriously (the bosses and clients who would make any sort of decision based on that phrasing).

Would never correct someone, but he's not wrong in that it is a definite tip-off to someone being a hack. Basically 100% correlation.

Yeah "golf" and "golfing" are pet peeves of mine too. If someone uses the terms "go golfing" or golf they probably take mulligans, breakfast balls, 5' gimmies etc.

Bottom line is that golf is like fishing, hunting etc, an occasional thing to some and a lifestyle to others. Whenever I hear someone use those terms I just know they aren't my people Some of us are more serious than others and that's ok.

FWIW, I asked my coworker who is a former pro whether he thinks golfing vs. play golf is a big deal. He said he couldn't give a rat's ass about it. Just another data point for this conversation.

Additionally, if we can't say "golfing", then what do you people prefer we call "golfers". Someone asks you who you think the best golfer is of all time, and rather than get into a Jack vs. Tiger discussion do you seize up and hold in your rage at the gall? "They should have asked me who the best person at playing golf all time is!"
