Anybody been out there lately? I'm playing Thursday and am just curious about current conditions. Weather looks like it will be crap but I'm still excited to play it for the first time. TIA
Greens are rolling well.

The course is hard and fast -- both greens and fairways. The grass is starting to come in, but it is still in transition.

This week has been so warm the grass is really starting to pop.

Since this thread was created, the club announced they are going to change the fairways to Paspalum, which is supposed to be much more tolerant of salinity.

In early June they are going to spray herbicide, scrape the dead grass, and sprig the fairways. I presume that involves adding topsoil, too.

They are doing the entire course at once.

Before they start they are building permanent Par 3 teeboxes that will allow the course to be played as a Par 54 during the fairway regrowth -- which they have said will be 6-8 weeks (which seems optimistic).

They will keep the Par 3 boxes afterwards to make the course more supportive of play during the rainy weeks when it is too muddy.

They use Paspalum out at Black Jack in Lajitas. Very different than the bermuda most courses in this are use. It feels like carpet and the ball sits up very nice. Almost don't even need a tee on par 3's.

They put it on the driving range last year, and it has done pretty well.

Seems like a good renovation from what I've heard about the water out there. I really enjoyed paspalum when I played at The Ocean Course.

Will be fun to play the Aggie Golf Association tournament in April and then hopefully check it out during football season after the changes.

That all sounds great, thanks. Glad I'll get to play it before they start ripping it apart, but sounds like the new grass will be nice.

Just FYI

Entire course will be closed to play for the month of June

Then 18 hole 3 pars for ensuing weeks. Maybe most of July & August.

Ownership is pouring the $$ into these projects

Our greens at the club in Corpus are paspalum, and in a pinch we can use some pretty salty water on them if restrictions from the regular source get too tight.

Played it about a month ago and fairways were in really bad shape. Mud. No grass.

They have still have a drainage issue
