What a great weekend. So jealous of the locals there that can have those memberships or play those courses all the time.
Our groups ranking of the 4 was all pretty similar:
1) Pinehurst #2 - a beautiful perfect example of the the region and American golf. Off-the-tee, ball striking, distance control and putting all need to be firing, but if you have that, a normal person can play well. However if anything is off, it will put your flaws on display very quickly. I shot a 96 and spent a lot of time in the native.
2 a/b) There was debate on Pine Needles or Southern Pines being the 2nd of these 4. The conditioning was absolutely perfect, likely moreso than at #2. The greens were flawless, the fairways were lush. I felt like it was more straightforward than the others with less room for creativity and shotmaking etc.
2 a/b) Southern Pines was my 2nd favorite. What a gem. The routing is so natural, the layout and holes were very memorable, the greens were wild. A small notch below the conditioning of Pine Needles, but I could play that every day.
4) Mid Pines - none of us were overly impressed with Mid Pines. They had punched it like 3 weeks ago I think, so maybe we didn't get the best representation. The layout wasn't quite as fun as the other 2 but we made up for it with renting the Finn motorcycle carts.
Lots of great pics, but I just want to share the 6th green at Southern Pines. It was up there with a couple at Sheep Ranch for my favorite greens I've ever seen. Pictures barely do it justice, but it was wild.
