I would go to the1895 Grille so can see more of Pinehurst. Dugan's Pub is close by and so is Drum and Quill, another golf bar.

If you happen to get more time, The Villager Deli has some amazing southern sandwiches and great for a lunch spot. The Roast Office is a really cool mom and pop book store/coffee shop with some amazing scones.

Man, I really want to go back. I have a buddy living there and wants me to go to the 2024 US Open with him. You got me all giddy now haha

Oh the wife is going? Not sure if she is golfing with you or not but downtown Southern Pines is the place to go for endless boutiques and just such a lovely place. Short drive from Pinehurst. (5 Minutes)

Book her a spa day at the resort spa. Enjoy drinks at The Deuce after your round at #2.

I would sit on the rocking chairs right outside and sips cocktails and watch people finish on the 18th.

Simply bliss.

I just booked my first trip to Pinehurst for first part of November. Playing 8, 2, 4 in that order. I keep a list of all the courses I've played in my life, and think I have it timed so #2 will be my 200th.

All of these comments/suggestions have me pretty pumped up about the trip. Staying in The Holly with the meal plan. Very surprised at the affordable pricing, but we're going to be there right after it changes to off-season pricing, so I guess that's why.

that's an excellent plan. if you can squeeze any more non PH courses in, I'd go Tobacco Road or Southern Pines.

Tot Hill is same designer as Tobacco Road, but way cheaper and on way back from PH (if you're driving). I think it's 45ish mins outside of town going west. It's going through a reno right now and due to open back in Sept, so will probably be awesome by the time you're there: https://www.tothillfarm.com/

I'm fortunate in that I have a wife willing to accompany me on trips like this that are mostly golf related. I'm not going to push getting any more golf in, but thanks for the suggestions. If this was a guy's trip Tobacco Road would definitely be included. Love the look of the place from the pics I've seen.

But, we do have an extra day in Raleigh that will be a non-golf day. Anything special to do there?

I've got my rounds all booked for my trip the last week of August. Staying at the Mid Pines Hotel Sunday and Monday and then moving over to The Holly at Pinehurst Tuesday-Friday. I'll have to wait until 7 days before arrival to book a second round on #2 & #4 so I'll try to replace #9 and #7 if I can. And apparently #3 is blocked off for members so I'll have to check the day before I want to play to see if there's an opening. I did the meal package and need to change my reservations around so I can grab a nice dinner at The Carolina Room as suggested. Getting up early enough to catch the included breakfast before my early tee times might be the toughest part of the trip.

Sunday - Fly In (11:30) / Mid Pines (4:05)
Monday - Tobacco Road (7:30) / Pine Needles (2:00)
Tuesday - #2 (9:00) / Cradle
Wednesday - #4 (8:00) / #7 (3:39)
Thursday - #9 (8:50) / OPEN
Friday - #8 (8:00) / Fly Out (7:30)

Wow so jealous what a trip! Please report back with pics as I'm thinking about this trip (maybe not the Resort) the same time next year. Interested in course conditions and just how hot it gets over there.
Thanks.

One man's opinion - if you're changing out 7 (which is smart), I would play 3 over 9. Shorter course to end the day would be fun.

Raleigh is awesome. I'll get back to you on this cool and unique bookstore slash small Chinese kitchen. Some of the best Dim Sum I've ever had.

Actually it's called Brewery Bhavana. Everyone loves it.

Southern Pines Brewing Company has a flagship beer called Duck Hook. You'll have to bring a six pack back hehe Pete is the Master Brewer there and is a wonderful person. And it was started by 3 old SF guys. Really cool tap room.

Ha, that's great! I'll definitely have one of those.

New question for those following along at home.....

Ride or walk? We're going to have a caddie one way or the other

Is #4 CPO like #2?

I was planning on walking with a caddy only on #2 & #4. Are golf carts common on the remaining Pinehurst courses or pushcarts?

We took a cart on #3 and walked #2 and #4.

I think carts are very common on the other courses. I don't remember seeing a cart on #2 or #4.

Walk 2, can go either way on 4. We carted 4 with no caddie and I didn't think a caddie was nearly as necessary on 4. We also played 36 every day, so walking was less realistic. It's not a "that guy" thing on 4…we didn't catch hell from any staff or any walkers while riding.

Did you get down on some of the local cuisine?

What were your favorites?

We had a house, so cooked a lot, but brewery was good, village cafe was good for breakfast and lunch stuff. Dugans Pub was good, also had good Thai and Mexican, but can't remember the names. Had a very hammered meal after cradle one night, but zero memories there

Nice.

I just miss living there. I forgot what the ratio of golf courses to land was but it was something absurd. Even the "crappy" courses were amazing to play on. And very cheap. Move back to Texas and everyone think's their course is a TPC course.

You're right about cart path only on #4. Forgot they told me that when I booked a couple weeks ago.

sexually? if so, yes

if for golf, no...that's the way to not have to spend a small fortune. Unless you guys are all single digit handicaps playing each other for big money, I'd go 2 for 4 all day
