Yes, but the Triumph group have been extremely busy the last 3 weeks marking out the new greens and moving lots of dirt for the new 18 holes. Looks to me like they are going to raise the greens a few feet. They want to reopen in 8 months.

Dear Members/Guests,

We are pleased to announce that we have finalized the sale of approximately 80 acres to the HCFCD as of April 28, 2023. With the sale of the land, the flood mitigation project for the Longwood and surrounding communities can finally be realized. This will be very beneficial to reduce future flooding events in these communities.

So, what does this mean for the future of Longwood Golf Club? By selling off the 80 acres, we are left with only 13 holes of golf out of the 18 holes that were unaffected. We will be using the proceeds of this sale to restore the golf course to 18 holes. This project will consist of designing and building 5 new holes and renovating the other 13 holes. This renovation will consist of new greens, green surrounds, reshaping of some fairways, tee boxes and sand traps. As part of this process, we will be moving the driving range towards what was Palm hole # 9 and we will be constructing a Teaching Center. This will allow the new 18th hole to finish at the clubhouse. We are extremely excited about the project and the future of Longwood Golf Club. Combined with the natural beauty of the property and the new renovations, we feel that it will be one of the best layouts in the Houston area. As many of you are aware, we have already started the renovation of the golf course. In fact, five of the holes have already been reshaped, and we are very excited about the new layout. We are looking at reopening in the November/December timeframe.

During this time, we will also be renovating the clubhouse and pavilion. This will include painting the inside and outside of both, a new roof on the pavilion, new tables and chairs for the dining room, renovation of the restrooms, and renovating the pro shop. We are also looking at several other projects for the clubhouse that we will announce shortly.

The renovation plans are evolving and are taking final shape as we clear the new corridors. As we progress, we will produce the final layout and design of the golf course. We will continue to issue updates and photos as we get further along with the project.

Well that seems odd. Who designs the layout as they progress?!?

I got the email from Cypress Lakes, looks like they are just jamming 15-17 together based on the routing in the below map.

When is Cypress Lakes scheduled to close? After Longwood is back open?

Thanks for posting the pic, I was trying to figure out how to do that. We are members at Cypress Lakes, we got the email from both Longwood and Cypress Lakes. If you ask around Cypress Lakes the story is they classified it as real estate to be able to borrow against it. I would presume for the Longwood project, but one would think why would they need to borrow against it if the sale of the 80 acres should have financed the improvements. Additionally, they say the sale of Cypress Lakes was almost completed some time back but two high profile attorneys that live in the neighborhood directly adjacent to Cypress Lakes put a stop to it, not sure how true this is. We live just down the road from the course and I was told by neighbors about 2 months ago that some prospective buyers showed up at one of the HOA meetings. Supposedly, nothing is final yet. I think everyone recognizes that land is worth way more as a real estate development than as a golf course so it is only a matter of time. That will be sad as that is where my daughter learned to play and where she currently goes for lessons and the player development program. I guess we shall see. All the Longwood memberships moved over temporarily to Cypress Lakes, I'm sure when it is done, the clock will start ticking on Cypress Lakes, hope I am wrong. There is nothing remarkable about Cypress Lakes but it is home to us, our home course that we have walked time and again. Another rumor out, and at this point that is all they are, is that Longwood is seriously upgrading and with the amount of money they have invested they are at least considering taking it private to weed our the riff raff, haha. I think when Cypress Lakes goes traffic will get even worse at Blackhorse.

What a waste of taxpayer money.. 125k per acre for floodplain land.
So where is all the water going to be diverted to?

I heard from someone that would know that Longwood will be membership plus a limited number of public rounds per day. Not many and not cheap.

It's not supposed to be diverted, it holds there until it can be released into the bayous is how it typically works

Really hope this isn't true. Would hurt the options around cypress, as longwood wasn't a bad track for the area.

They said they would be semi-private at the meeting with HOA. They said they'd have limited public tee times in the range of $150 a pop and that is how they'd keep membership prices "low". They said they'd have about 450 members.

Anybody heard anything new lately? I've emailed a couple different times, in April/May and then again in early August and they won't give a specific range for reopening, but have confirmed they plan to be semi-private. It's a little frustrating that they're either keeping things close to the chest, or do not seem to have a very concrete plan.

Hoping someone in the neighborhood knows more.

I don't care how nice the renovations are but no way in hell I'm gonna pay $150 to play at Longwood.

If they can just match Gleanloch quality, I'd be happy joining full time. But yeah, neither of those courses are $150 for a round

My daughter gets lesson at Cypress Lakes, the instructors there said they have been told Cypress Lakes will eventually be a housing development, they just don't know when. They will be relocated to Longwood, and they seem excited about the facilities, said they have been out there and it is looking good. My daughter and I drove out there yesterday and walked around, nobody said a thing to us. The outside patio (it is a pergola) is complete, The 18th hole comes in to the clubhouse where the old range used to be, the green is in and they have built two stone bridges. The concrete pad for the training facility has been poured, the outline of the range is cleared. The practice green and bunker are in. Looks like they did some work to the clubhouse. Coming along. I think once it is complete we will quickly find out how soon Cypress Lakes will meet its demise. Will be sad to see it go, we live within walking distance, and while there is nothing remarkable about the course it is where my daughter learned to play.

We will have to make a decision of whether to join Blackhorse or Longwood, so I am anxious to hear about their pricing.

I can't see them exceeding Blackhorse or Gleanloch costs. I'm hoping for sub-$400 per month, all in, with walking options less than that. I was at Gleanloch for about six months but left because Spring Cypress at 5pm can eat a diick.

And $400 is absolute max for Longwood. They've got a history and a perception they'll need to overcome and maintain if folks are gonna stick around.

They're doing some real work on the back patio, 18th, and back "nine" holes. It's looking great.

Went out with a neighbor and rode our bikes along the new layout and I'm impressed. They've outlined a lot of new fairway bunkers and moved some greens and enlarged others. I think it'll be a much more technical course.

The flagstone bridge at "the turn" after 11 gives me hope that they intend to elevate their game.

They emailed an update yesterday, among other things they are anticipating a December reopening. They will be emailing membership information the next few weeks and will be offering some "pre-opening" tours.

That layout is what it is. Making the best of a less than ideal scenario. What they did makes sense except for 17 green. I would have expected something more a little different to give a little more room around 16/ 17 tees and greens

I saw a reply on another thread saying it was closing in December. Sad to hear if true, especially if they just fixed the sprinkler issue that ruined the fairways this summer.

Additionally, to honor the loyalty of all existing Weekday & Full Longwood members who have temporarily moved to Cypress Lakes, we have customized a special Initiation Fee in appreciation of their continued support. As membership grows, Initiation Fees will increase, and public access will be steadily decreased to match our vision of a private club atmosphere. Both special initiation fees will only be available until opening and will be limited to the first 100 to sign-up. All Pre-opening specials on initiation fees will be fully refundable until opening.

I noticed that as well, I might give them a call today to inquire. Also no mention of the duel memberships they used to offer with Cypress Lakes, which says a lot for the future of that golf course.

Since they're trying to make Longwood have "the feel of a private course" I hope they end up keeping Cy Lakes around since cypress lacks affordable public courses.
